I just popped into the Columbia forum to see what might have been said after Barnes won the U.S. Open and I found no love in the air over there. I must commend all of you in here for showing love and respect for one another and towards those that win on tour with the Big B. We are definitely one big "winning" family here in the Nation.

I'm glad Chris Barnes finally won. I'm glad be beat Patrick Allen because IMO, Allen was being a c0cky little punk after the roll-off with Koivuniemi. If he PA was all that, there wouldn't have been a need for the roll off.
Just my opinion.

He IS ALL that, well not until he throws an inferno .. but he just got pumped, hes the first lefty to beat Mika on TV, you mean to tell me you wouldn't be fired up?
I dunno. I was pumped like that when I shot my first 300 and my first 700 series. Then again, the lanes were tough. Perhaps you are right.

Theres a time and a place for everything, and it wasnt the time or the place for PA to act that way.
In good sportsmanship mika comes over right after to give congrats, and pa is standing on the chair hootin and hollering looking like an utter fool IMO. I dont think PA's action were in good sports, you would think he won the entire tournement. *shrugs* go figure.

You all have to remember that the PBA higher-ups encourage a little fire. Figure it this way, it's a major title, high-pressure roll-off, against Major Mika "Lefties' Worst Nightmare"...how would you react? If Mika has a problem, he'll let PA know soon. Remember, you're talking about the Bowler of The Year and a guy who's lost three times to him. The reaction was fine.

Heck, I'd be doing the same thing if I beat Mika - even if it was just during cosmic bowl!! LOL

Yea they encourage it, like i said a time and a place. You give congrats to your opponent, and then you take you 3min of fame where you can yell and hoot and hollar like a fool all you want.
The only problem i had with it was he didnt say anything to mika first started standing on chairs yelling etc, and then mika stands there waiting for PA to get off the chair and stop yelling.
IMO thats bushleauge.

PA should have been wiping his brow and breathing a sigh of relief since he won by only Mika's bad roll. But that's my opinion.

Yea i dont care for him that much either, im pretty happy that i havent seen him act like a jerk on a telecast. But at the same time it would be nice to see him make one.
There supposed to uphold the image of teh sport, IMO PA did not. You thank the guy and then you celebrate.
I mean if mika wanted to be a sore loser, he could have seen him hootin on the chair, and just walked away offering no thanks.

I think PA having alot of his hometown friends in the crowd had a lot to do with his reaction. Anyone ever seen how New Yorkers act and react at the Roller? That's what his reaction reminded me of. If he were in any state but New York/New Jersey, his reaction would have been better.
-
The PBA had to love the way PA acted after he won the roll-off, that's what their looking for. I found it entertaining, even know he just beat our Big B man. I was not happy with the results, but I was not turned off by his actions. IMO PA is not a bad guy at all, he just grew up bowling action in NY and that's how they learn to act during high stakes pot games. I was happy to see Chris win. Not because he beat PA, just because he beat a few demons. Obviously, the best scenario would have been the Big Finn (new Brunswick) beating the "Son of Jar-el" (old Brunswick) for the title, but that stuff is just all in fun, we appreciate what Chris did for us then and now we have Mika bringing the recognition.

I see your point. Perhaps it was poor timing IMO. He could have shaken hands with Mika and then turned to the crowd or the camera and W00000T to his hearts content.
I don't think he will get bowler of the year though.

I for one was stoked to see Barnes beat PA exactly because of PA's actions after he beat Mika. Of course, I like the way Barnes carried himself during and after the title match, especially recognizing Dick Weber's passing. Even before that, he was smiling and pleasant, which was a sharp contrast from PA's demeanor.
Mika is my favorite bowler to watch because of his will to throw "his" style, even when the conditions "demand" that the lanes be played a little differently. To me that is a testament to his skill. Barnes is my next favorite to watch because of the way he carries himself. If I was teaching my kids how to act when they bowl, I'd tell them to emulate Chris Barnes.
