Rampage vs. Power Groove
« on: January 05, 2006, 03:04:02 AM »
The Rampage looks to be rather inexpensive...but how does it compare to the PowerGroove on medium lanes?

I guess it depends on which Power Groove you're talking about.  IME the Rampage is smoother and more controllable than the pearl reactive Power Grooves, but more angular than the solid reactive Power Groove.  For me, the Rampage is about five boards stronger overall than my polished solid Power Groove.

How about compared to the yellow/chrome power groove?

One at a time, please...one at a time.

IME the Chrome/Yellow was one of the skid-flippiest balls I'd ever owned.  It would go 60 feet in the oil, and make a hard left from the dry.  The Rampage handles oil much better than the C/Y, and while it doesn't make a left turn at the break, it recovers well enough to be used from inside lines.

does the rampage hit harder then the power groove? i am seriously considering a rampage

I'm not sure I'd say that it hits *harder,* but my Rampage reads medium conditions much more favorably than the pearlized Power Grooves ever did for me.

I still think that every Brunswick arsenal should have a Rampage in it.  The Rampage is a house bowler's best friend.

How do the reactive PG's (not the Dry/R, the regular ones still in production) compare to the Punisher?

IME the Power Grooves are *much* sharper at the break than the Punisher.  For me, this made the pearl PGs harder to control, and is the reason why I carry the solid PG and the Dry/R instead of the pearl.

On typical medium-type conditions, my Chrome/Yellow drilled 5 x 5 (box condition, no XH) went a few feet longer than my Punisher drilled 4L (box condition, also no XH).  The PG also seemed to keep its length better than the Punisher as the lanes broke down.  I've always had better luck with the Power Groove on choppier conditions where I need to take the front part of the lane out of play, whereas the Punisher seems to work best for me either on fresher wet-dry conditions or shots where the track is broken down but there is still a decent launchpad in front.
