For what condition?  The Alpha Max is an "oiler", while the Ulti Max clears the heads with a stronger move late.  If you primarily bowl on THS you'd probably find the Ulti Max will be used more often.

I agree with Lane in that the Alpha-max would be able to handle more oil and would take better to surface changes. The Ulti-max has more of a skid/flip reaction and would work better on broken down conditions.

If you polish the Alpha-max, what type of reaction would you have?

A polished Alpha will still read somewaht earlier than the Ulti Max, and be less angular overall , too.

I'd do the Ulti-Max at $99 in a heartbeat.  The cover was very responsive to any tweaks I tried, too.

Ulti-max from me as well. The ball at box finish has good length and is strong down lane. Very strong. It can easily be drilled and surface preped to handle more oil. Go 1000 on the finish and watch it go.

The Alpha-max for me at box finish still had decent length but over all was just a slower reaction. Even on heavier oil I wasn't a fan. I took mine and added polish to it and liked it better. Worked much better on most THS, but still not nearly as well as the Ultimax. So I then bought another Ultimax to have for a rainy day.

If you want a used Alpha max with less then 10 games let me know.
