Opinions on Total Inferno
« on: March 26, 2008, 04:32:35 AM »
Hi!

What’s everyone’s opinion on the Total Inferno?

I’ve read all of the reviews and it seems to be mixed. My driller, whom I trust, said that it’s rather condition specific and it’s never been a big seller here in the UK (London / Southeast area), yet some people here claim it’s one of the better balls from Brunswick.

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=188453&ForumID=2&CategoryID=2

The Total Inferno caught my eyes cos it’s supposed to be ‘...delivers the highest hook potential Brunswick has achieved in a pearlized ball...’

I’m not one of those who wants the most ‘hook-in-box’, rather, I’m just a ball junkie and if it's one of the better Brunswicks, then I'd like to get one before it's too late.

So what’re your views?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

Sorry, I deleted your post by mistake.

Never had a chance to try the Absolute, though I loved my Original Inferno, Ultimate, Classic Zone and Vapor Zone, so I do like the Brunswick low-RG / Activator combo. Just want to see what the Octane Gription is like, cos I've never tried the Radical Inferno, Fury or the Fury Pearl.

I do like my Twisted though (higher RG / EnMotion Pearl).

I know everone's different and one man's cake is another man's poison..... so I just want to get everyone's views.

Thanks.

i love my total inferno. very versatile as far as being able to play different lines, different axis rotation, etc. very good traction in the oil for a pearl. most of the time mine has been finished with a 4,000 grit abralon pad. plenty of traction without the huge skid/snap.

Hi Charlie,

I've got a TI, which I won in a competition. In terms of total area covered, it's the strongest ball I own, so it doesn't make many appearances only on the wettest of the wet (or longest of the long)

It's still got the box finish, and I have it drilled 4.5" pin-PAP, with the pin just below the fingers. The ball itself behaves more like a solid than a pearl for me, picking up quite early on and giving a very arcing shape. At the end of the pattern I get a nice smooth reaction and there still seems to be enough energy left behind to get it round the corner into the pocket with good carry, although I tend to notice it carries slightly heavy pocket better than light, but that might just be me
On the right condition (wet/long) I love it, picks up early, with enough grip to cover a few boards in conditions where you really need the extra hook, and with the drilling I have on it, there's no over/under.
Due to the earlyness of the roll, I usually have to put it away when the heads start to dry up, although when I start bowling again, I shall be experimenting with a little loft, which could extend the usefulness of the ball in competition. At the moment I tend to shell down to my impulse zone when this starts to burn up or hook loads before the arrows.

Many thanks for everyone's inputs!

I just bought a NIB off ebay at a pretty good price, probably won't punch it up just yet cos I don't really need it.

Thanks again.

I agree with everyone else, I love mine. It's very smooth off the breakpoing and also very strong.  I can use it on a number of different conditions and it really makes a nice smooth move off the dry.

My ideal conditions for this ball are medium lighter oil that I can play swinging out over third or a heavier pattern that I can play a 2 board swing over 2nd arrow.  Very versatile ball!

I had one and I hated the way it rolled. It didn't really carry and in oil it just skated. I'd be willing to try it again though with a different drilling and a longer pin to cg distance.

The ball is definitely better polished at a 2000 grit or higher.  I took it down to 600 and it was not doing it for me.

Mine was skittish and over/under at times with the original OOB finish. When I took it to 4000 sanded abralon finish, it sure woke the ball up and it became an awesome piece in my arsenal. You might work with the finish some next time.

I polished it up sanded it down and everything inbetween. 4000 it was decent but still not worth keeping in the bag.

Love mine!  One of it's claims is that it is not affected a ton by carry down, and I attest to that.  The house I bowl in is notorious for lanes braking down quickly and having tons of carry down.  Every other ball I have or have had (including the Fury solid) would only last me a little more than a game, then I'd have to be forced to look to make changes.  But my Total lasts me almost through the third game.  Definite keeper for me.

I think the total inferno is a great ball. I think depending on surface and drilling can be extremely versitle. I have to that go with me to college tournaments. I plan on getting a few more just for when they stop selling them any more. Its a great ball and I would recommend getting it. I have one drilled pin down 4 1/2 from my pap and on pin up 5 from my pap both at different surfaces and they work amazing.

I liked mine, posted a 290 in the 2nd week with it, then blew up my wrist.. figures, so I dropped weight and that was one that didn't get replaced (until this weekend hahahaha!)  The ball is extremely versitile, will roll heavy if drilled to and will get pretty nice length if drilled to, surface means a lot as well.  I had mine from box to 4000 grit and it worked well in all surfaces as they matched the lane.  I would not be affraid to get another, as I plan to do bc they are on clearance.

I love mine but I will say this.  It's not an oiler.  It has a lot of hook, and a lot of power.  But if there's truely medheavy-heavy oil it will struggle.  I have a MoRich LevRG and my total is the PERFECT complement to that ball, so it's a good complement to any oiler.

I start the day or tournament out with my oiler ball, can handle oil and hooks in nice.  When my line breaks down instead of moving I take out my total inferno and start swinging.  The TI can handle oil, but only once my line has been created.  Once that's done and I have to put my oiler away, the TI will let me swing 5-10-15-20 as many boards as I need it to.

This weekend in a tournament I shot 216 with my LevRG, then switched to the TI and shot 279 and 215.  Love that ball and it fits in everyone's bag as a complement to their heavier stuff.
