SI - here's what I did -success
« on: January 27, 2006, 01:31:26 AM »
been having trouble with my SI in that it was so condition specific, any amount of heavier oild anywhere and it was erratic.

took it down to 220 grit, then applied rubbing compound to buff it back up to a semi sheen gloss.  put in sink for 2-3 minutes to make sure all polishing compound was off the ball.

Now the ball is like a smooth tank.  I mean it never hooked early yet had amazing backend even on carrydown.  just smacking pins around.  hopefully this stays like this cuz it is like a different ball.  glossy yes, but bot highly glossy.  sweet!

Way to go Doug. I'd hate to see a guy have such a great ball, and not be able to maximize it's power! How's the Ultimate working out?

Kinda did the same thing with my Intense Inferno. I wanted it to read a medium heavy pattern better than in the box condition.

In the box condition (400 grit wet sand with high gloss polish) it would travel about 40 ft then turn left in medium to medium light patterns, but skid in anything above that.

Now, after i took it down to 320 grid and applied rough buff, it picks up the mid lanes sooner, but still has a very angular move to the pocket.

Still the hardest hitting ball I have..

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

I think I'll give that a try, Inverted 1. My Intense has always been too skid/flippy for me, with the heavy emphasis on the "skid" part.

Doug,
I did something similar to my SI also.  I left the surface at 400 grit wet sand and then applied ruff buff instead of high gloss and it smoothed out the reaction just like you said.  I have had 16 in a row (over 2 games) and 10 in a row since doing that.  Best I could muster was 3 or 4 with the box finish.

I think the ball in the box condition is a little too squirty for our styles (strokers).  Just a little tweak to the cover and you got an awesome ball though.
