I want to send a ball as a gift....which one?

I was thinking of surprising my grandfather with a new ball.  He has done alot for us in the past year, so I think this would be something nice to do.

He has:

Predator(Red)(stacked)
Contact Zone 2.0(label drill)
Sheer Havoc(4 1/2 by 3 1/2)
Original Ti messenger-unsure on drill
V2-unsure
Ignitor--4.5 by 4.5 cg in palm, pin above bridge

Which ball would be a good choice?  

I was thinking about a Punisher, OI??  Thoughts??

ON EDIT:  All these are 15lbs, I plan on ordering a 14.  His stats:  low rev, med speed, 60ish axis rotation...

I think you might be better off, for his sake, to err on the side of caution. Get him a card and cut out a beautiful picture of a bowling ball, put it in the card and tell him he has the right to pick out any ball he so wishes. In fact, it might be better if he describes his ball arsenal to the pro shop and let the driller decide with your grandfather what he needs/wants.

Of course, being a grandfather, you may have to insist that he allow you to get him this gift. Many of them refuse such gifts. You can always act as the aggrieved party, telling him he won't allow you to be nice to him in return.

Charlest, you are right he is a stubborn old man.  But, if he doesn't know I ordered it and it shows up at his door, 1100miles away from me, he wouldn't refuse it.

He doesn't have a proshop in his town, tragic really for a town of 60K people.  An old buddy of mine does any drilling, but isn't a proshop guy.  He is kinda self taught but he does a good job with the basics.

If you really aren't sure what to get him, get teh original inferno.  Afterall, it is supposed to be one of the most versatile balls ever.  He can find a spot to put it in, guaranteed.

If he's 1100 miles away, that's another fly in the ointment.

While a 14 lb-er may be a step in the right direction, will he want it? Egos for us old fogeys can be delicate. Has he indicated he wants to step down in weight?

Is the V2 a solid or the pearl?
The Igniter and the Messenger Ti are pearls, if the V2 is a pearl, he may need another, depending on their age and what he thinks of them.

I like ak57's idea of the Inferno, as well as a polished Nemesis or a Punisher,  all relatively generic, fast revving balls for anyone, especially a low revver. If he faces mostly lighter oil, then the Punisher; otherwise, the Inferno. (Teach him how the Inferno does not act like a pearl resin ball, though.)

Well, the V2 is a solid, which is his favorite ball b/c it isn't 15lbs, it is a "heavy" 14.  I think we weighed it out to 14 6 or so.  

Anyway, I talked to him last night for about 2 hours.  He doesn't seem interested in bowling much right now.  He is only bowling a senior league this year, which they never put out any fresh oil.  He said, one week he can use his target zone, the next he can't get anything to move b/c of the carrydown.

I suggested that maybe he bowl a non-senior league but he doesn't like any of the other leagues in the house.  So, we suggested that he pack it up and move to Spokane with us.  With his less than enthusiastic attitude, I don't know if a new ball would cheer him up or if he just wouldn't use it....

It was a kind and considerate offer.

See if you can nudge him, GENTLY, to see what he might really like or be able to use for a birthday present. I once got an older uncle a cordless drill for a birthday; he insisted on returning it to me, saying I spent too much on him. He was less well off than I was and it wasn't much from my point of view AND he was a carpenter. Still if he felt that uncomfortable, I had to accept it back. As I said, be gentle.

I am actually sad that he isn't having bowling anymore.  About 10 years ago, he pinched a nerve in his neck.  At that time, he was averaging 20? with urethane, not THS.  After he pinched the nerve, he hasn't averaged above 180.  He gets very disappointed with his bowling b/c he knows he has done it better.

Anyway, well maybe we'll get him a DVD player since is stuck in 90's....and doesn't have one.
