red zone & impulse zone
« on: December 13, 2006, 11:58:13 AM »
if i take an impulse zone and drilled it the same as the red zone, what type of difference would there be.  PAP is 5 3/4" and 1/2" up.  layout on the red zone is pin above ring finger...4 1/2" to PAP, psa 1 1/2" right of thumb.  i was thinking of having the IZ drilled to check up early and continue in the backend.  something like a 4" pin to pap, next to ring finger which would put the psa 2" right of thumb in the 5oclock position.  any thoughts & info?

Hi Gunny,

Funny you should ask this question. My PAP is 5 1/2" over and 5/8 up. I guess we're pretty close. I actually made a video of my Red Zone and my Impulse Zone together. They had fairly similar layouts, except the Impulse Zone's pin was under the ring finger and had a weighthole in the thumb positive quadrant.

The Impulse Zone read the mids better and had a pretty strong backend (I'm guessing due to the weighthole). This surprised me as this ball is a medium-load particle ball.

The Red Zone for me was a pretty smooth ball overall. It was pretty tame in comparison to my Impulse Zone. It was also cleaner through the fronts and mids in comparison to the IZ.

Hope this helps!

thanks Ramtart!!! i knew i saw a vid just couldnt remember who it was and my search came up nothing. very good comparison vid though. after seeing the strength of the impulse in the vid i think it would fit in my bag somewhere. i have one laying around and dont feel like getting rid of it.

that info was perfect.  my red zone is skid flippy too and i didnt want to drill the impulse and have the same reaction.  looking for strong arc.
