Avalanche Slide? or ??
« on: November 18, 2008, 02:02:50 AM »
I have a Avalanche Solid but I find it reads a little to early for me & does not seem to hit hard enough for me.

Looking for a ball that will go longer but finish stronger.

Has anyone have any experience throwing the Avalanche Slide? How do you have it laid out? How does it react?  Does it hit hard?

I bowl medium speed/high revs (hi-track roller). Don't know my pap. cheers.

It does go substantially longer. I've used mine on bone dry and it carried everything. On a fresher pattern playing outside it was pretty good, but the 10 pin was being stubborn that night, so I need some more experimenting on that type of condition. Really, though, for fresh patterns why not use something a little stronger?

I'd still recommend strong layouts for almost any bowler on this one due to the tame core and length that the cover gets.

I have an Av Solid drilled with the pin 5" from PAP, above the fingers, and a Slide 4" from PAP, also above the fingers.  Both balls are in box finish.

What I'm finding is that the two are equally clean in front, but the Slide has a more lateral move at the break.  So while the Solid will make a decent turn, the Slide will be significantly more angular.

The cover on the solid is surprisingly strong for a ball in this price range. The slide is probably your best option in this price range. Also, low diff balls like the Avs aren't as dynamic as anything else in the lineup so they can give the illusion of not hitting because the core is weaker.

First and foremost, make sure your attacking the lanes in the optimum area of the lane. If the Solid is going a little early it only makes sense that it seems to lack in the hit department. This ball is good for medium to dry, depending on the bowler, but keep in mind that you still need to avoid early friction on the lane regardless of what ball you choose. With that being said, you can definitely gear down a little by going to the Slide. The key to optimum scoring is having the ball retain enough energy to be effective through the pins but without having to much angle at the breakpoint. There will always be times when a sharper look is more effective, but in general, a controlled, but energized move will prove to consistently increase your scores and make your adjustments easier to make and more understandible.
