Warp Zone Wouldn't Move for Me

I know this is supposed to be the “hook” monster ball but I couldn’t get it to move Thursday night.

I only have 15 or so games on it and have thrown a couple big ones at that, but Thursday night the lanes were really slick with hardly any backend.

I had the ball setup for conditions like this so I was surprised when I couldn’t get in working.

I’m a lefty with med/hi speed (17 mph) and about 12 – 14 revs. I'm more of a stroker than any other type of bowler.       The ball is set up:

CG - 2 1/8" to PAP
Pin - 3" to PAP
Wt. Hole 1 1/16"
2" past PAP
Depth 3"

So it should have worked but didn’t. I know that it was wet sanded to 400 grit (box finish) but the ball looks shiny. I have cleaned it with a mixture of Simple Green and water.

I tried several different parts of the lane i.e., up 5, up 8, up 10, 10 to 5, 8 to 5. Nothing worked. I slowed my speed down as much as I could, kept behind the ball longer, nothing. I made sure my thumb was out before my ankle.

Again, nothing worked. Is there anything I missed? What could be the problem? I’m thinking it was me not executing correctly or not playing the lanes correctly.

Need some help on this one, I’m stumped.

Did the ball look shiney when you got it? OR has it gradually built up a shine after the games you have put on it. If that is the case, it is just absorbing too much oil.

The ball is drilled to roll pretty early, is it possible it is hitting dry boards too quickly and burning up?

Have your pro shop we sand the ball to 400 grit, and try a compound finish on it---800-1000 should do the job. Try this in order to see if the ball will do a little better for you if it retains energy down the lane.

It didn't have the matt finish that you see on some of the other balls. Again with only about 15 or so games I wouldn't think it absorbed oil that quickly.

As far as burning up, I don't think it did. I can usually tell when this happens but I didn't think this was it. The ball wouldn't move towards the pocket, it just slid straight.

I've noticed when I throw this ball my track is totally different. I usually track outside my thumb and fingers about 2". My track on this is inverted and tilted. About 4 to 4 1/2" from my fingers and 3" from my thumb.

Would the core cause this?

Bereez, balls aggressive as the Warp Zone will soak up oil fast.  I would get it resanded to 400 box finish and try it again. I resand my Particle stuff very, very often to maintain the most aggressive reaction.

As for your track, if it is lower than normal you are coming out of the side of the ball.  Basically you are spinning more than an end over end roll.  When you do this it changes your PAP.  So, your drilling of 3" pin to pap turns into almost pin axis or very close to it.  That would take to core and flare completely out of the equation, leaving only the coverstock to handle the load.  

What is causing you to lower your track?  Well, it could be you are spinning it more or your span is shorter causing your thumb to exit the ball earlier.  I shortened my span a 1/4" this year and my track lowered somewhat.  I would try staying under and behind the ball and see if your track comes back up.

Where is mass bias, very important on this ball.

I have mine under thumb and it is NOT a heavy oil monster.

But I didn't plan for it to be with that drilling!

Great ball I think based on initial practice but the way mine is setup it is a notch down from my heaviest oil stuff.

Beautiful arc and roll just like my Revolution Rebel(same core)(same drilling) just earlier!
Just what I wanted.

I'll soon be getting enough of a read to post.

Probably the mass bias is not your problem but this ball is very sensitive to different drillings.  Not warnings on the drill sheet about putting mass bias on negative side of ball!

If your track has tilted and moved nearly 2 inches AWAY from your grip, that means your axis point has more than likely moved about that....which means what you thought was a 3x2 3/8 is like a 1x1 1/2 or so.....which is dead pin-axis, which is dead crap on a med-high load particle ball.  Im not exactly sure what would have made your PAP change like that, unless you made a grip change and are not releasing it the same, but that would explain the crappy ball reaction.  I would try finding what your PAP is on that ball, it might explain why it rolls so poorly, as a 1 inch pin to PAP and probably a 25 to 0 degree mass bias isnt exactly a great oil ball. Hope this helps.
