PK18 vs. Activator
« on: August 18, 2009, 02:17:33 AM »
I enjoyed the recent thread on PowerKoil 18 coverstock.  I just pulled my Wizard out of the closet (my first ball ever) and had it drilled rico. It's quickly becoming a favorite... the PK18 cover with a little polish and that drilling can handle almost any lane conditions I see these days.

I bowl in league with a guy who uses older Brunswick equipment, and he swears by both the PK18 and Activator coverstocks for their long life.  Watching him throw 250+ games with his original Danger Zone and Blazing Inferno, I can see why.

So what do the Big-B fans think about these two coverstocks and how they compare?  Or are there other covers you prefer?

Every PK18 ball I have still works great.  The Activator balls I've had seem to really get oil saturated and lose their reaction.  A buddy of mine pulled his Vapor Zone out of his bag this Summer and found a puddle of oil in the bottom of the bag and on the ball.  I'd take the PK18 over any other cover Brunswick has.

Alpha Jackal
Jackal Flash
Primal Shock
Rogue Assassin
Revolt Havoc
Revolt Vengeance
Venom Shock
Blue Coral Venom
Fatal Venom
Dessert Tank

The PK18 will probably always have a place in the Brunswick line up. The new Black Green Avalanche is the best yet IMO. It is a weaker pearl when compared to the latest covers, but it is more durable because of the formulation.

When the lanes get drier I always reach for the Rampage and the B/G Avalanche.
