what weight do "real" cores start at
« on: October 11, 2004, 03:27:37 PM »
I'm looking to buy a 12lb ball for a young lady who is quite a good bowler and ready for a good ball. She has had a power groove reactive for a while and is ready to move up. My question is does brunswick start the "real" cores in their balls at 12lb like track or do they wait until a 14lb like others. I need a 12lb and want a real core to help her out a little in the carry department. I see the older fuzes out there in 12lb but i don't know if they actually had a core in that weight. anybody know?

Most companies lines maintain dynamic "integrity" down to 12 pounds.  You will see higher RG's than the heavier balls for certain, but that is usually compensated for with higher RGDiffs.

The best cores in 12 or 13 #ers, imho, in current offerings...

ebonites "time" & vortex lines, brunswicks monsters & bvp's, & in Morich's TA & Ravage (if you want to go "upscale").

Another very good design still "out there" are some of the re-run Quantums that frequent ebay...

Storm uses the same core in their Master Line (X-Factor) balls down to 12#.
When I say the same they use the same shape but reduce the weight with both smaller and/or less dense cores. All of their other lines use a puck style core under 14#.
If she has a free non muscled arm swing she should be able to move up to 14#.
My girlfriend was using 12# and didn't think she would be able to move up to 14 but I bought her one anyway and she actually rolls it better than the 12.
I think this maybe that it seems to come off of her thumb a bit quicker 12# would hang a bit. I notice the same difference for myself between 14 and 15. I use both depending on the condition.

I'm pretty sure she cant handle a 14lb ball shes still a young one, just one thats gonna be whippin me when she gets a ball that doesn't deflect as much, honestly i'm kinda worried about getting her a better ball!

it's my understandimg that brunswicks inferno and zone lines use the same cores for the 12 to 16lb. balls.
