Power Groove Alteration

I posted this in the coverstock preparation forum, too, but I wanted to see what all you fine Brunswick people think.

I'm fairly new to bowling and just finishing up my first season in a league.  I average 141 right now, but rarely bowl below that.  I'm a stroker and I play my chrome/yellow power groove up the second arrow.  It seems to work pretty well for me in the first/second games, but I struggle in the third game.  I'm looking to get a little more hook out of my ball, so I was wondering if I should alter the surface with Scotch Brite pads.  First, should I do this myself or have a pro shop do it.  Second, should I do this at all?  Is it something that will give me the results I'm looking for out of this particular ball?  All suggestions/comments are appreciated.  Thanks.

A better question would be, why do you struggle the third game?

Changing the surface will make it start to hook eairler.

Yes, that is a good question, Moe, and I've wondered myself.  I naturally throw the ball with a good amount of speed, and I think that by the third game the oil has carried down a bit, and the combination of my speed and the ball's surface isn't allowing it to hook well, and that's why I thought roughing up the cover might help.  But, like I said, I'm pretty new to the game, so if anyone else could suggest why this might be happening, I'd love to hear it so I can fix it.  Thanks.

Don't scuff it. Sanded surfaces do not work well with less oil at all. The ball will hook when it hits the lane and just not be good. If you are not getting enough hook, I would simply suggest moving right and playing straighter.

Deffinetly, i think help or advice from your team members would work better than surface alterations.  Because you cant exactly see yourself bowl, maybe your changing hand positions, comming out flat, etc.  I had been doing alot of the same 2 weeks ago, but have since remedy'd that problem.

What area are you playing, and what kinda bowling style do you have, some information about yourself may help also.

Moe, thanks for the advice thus far.  

I'm a stroker and usually play up the second arrow or there about.  I'd like to crank the ball more, but need to practice.  Right now my average is a mere 141, but I don't usually bowl below that.  I have a high game of 254, high series 561.  If there's anything else you need to know, I'll do my best to answer.

As far as asking my team for advice goes, I don't know how much it would help.  I think I'm the most serious of my team about bowling.  Everyone else pretty much throws a straight ball.

I think your friends throwing plastic is the problem, it would probally help to do as The bowling kid said, move a little and play more straight.

Actually, non of them play with plastic... they just roll a straight ball.

Ok, im gonna go end myself now. I see straight, and think plastic... sorry. lol

I dont get it mate, playing it straighter may help, or possilby slowing down your ball speed.  Just play around with it, and see how close you get to the pocket.
