Power Groove Reactive: Early reports
« on: August 21, 2004, 03:11:14 PM »
I bought this ball on tuesday and have bowled about 12 games with it.  I bowled two patterns, half on a medium or so oiled THS, and my home pattern, a reverse block with good bit of oil on the outside.  On the THS, this ball was great.  Of course, I had to play straight up with it, but I averaged near 200 with it for the 6 games there (I'm a 500 bowler).  It's not extremely snappy, but it had a good motion, maybe a hard arcing flip or something.  Not a total snap.  On the reverse block, I had a bit of trouble at first, but when I found a line and slowed my speed a bit, i found that this ball has great hitting power for an entry level ball.  I averaged, well, average, but that's because this ball really wasn't built to roll early and bite in the oil, that I need for that pattern.  But I can still use it if I need to, or wanna fool around bowling no thumb.

Like the many others, I am very satisfied with this ball.

Edit:  The ball is the ice blue pearl, the layout is pin over ring stacked.  I might get some pics up soon, depends on if I can remember.

Yeah, they are the best entry level ball.  Someone with enough revs could probably make their whole arsenal from the various power grooves.

I got a PG drilled for a tournament, but didn't need it.  We have a no-tap Tuesday since our league finished last week.  I plan on using it to see what it can do.  It's not drilled very strong and I resanded to 1500 + polished to 3000.

Are you sure your house is oiled in a reverse block pattern? Reverse block is a larger volume of oil on the outside boards than what is layed down on the middle boards. It's hard to imagine any center actually oiling their lanes like that.

Just curious.

Yeah, it is...The outside is heavy, the inside is, kind of medium-medium/light......It's easier to pick up a 10 pin with a hook than a 9, since the ball just holds once you get outside.  I could show a video of me swinging and staying inside, then going outside, if I had my own video recorder and if i remembered.

Holy cow this ball is strong.  I didn't end up needing it for my tournament, but I did use it for my league's year end no tap last night.  The drilling and new surface prep can be seen at the bottom of this post.

I had to stand near the gutter and throw between the 4th and 5th arrow and swing most of the lane to keep it in play.  The laneman ran the normal league shot, but only made one pass instead of two, but I don't know what that means exactly.  It was drier than normal, but I still saw lots of Inferno's and Deuce's in use.  I think I would have needed to throw a backup ball to throw it in the right gutter.  The ball is stupid strong for the money.  On a house shot, you have a ton of room to miss outside, but very little inside.  Very little tug room with the PG.  Hitting power is very good.  Watch out for 4-9's if you're slightly high.  I would not throw this ball against twister pins, lol.  If you want a great medium oil ball and are short of cash, give the Power Groove a look.
