Punisher
« on: October 25, 2005, 04:22:22 AM »
I am considering getting a Punisher.  I currently am using a Smokin Inferno and I am having huge difficulties with it.  Can't get it to carry as far as I need it to.  Lanes I bowl on I would say are medium dry to dry.  My question is this a good ball to use and does it hook alot?  I also am looking for more carry down the lanes.  I am a high rev, medium speed bowler.  Would there be a suggested drilling pattern to use?  I'm afraid to have it drilled according to brunswick 2L and have the Punisher not carry(or will it?). Still, I do want hook in it also.  Any suggestions or advice would be great.

two headed boy,

how is your punisher drilled up, if you don't mind me asking?

From what I hear...the punisher is a nice step down from the smokin.

from my own experience...i used the punisher on a fresh shot, as long as the backends were clean (i have a lot of hand).  Both balls were drilled with layout 2E (the SI had an x-hole slighly under my PAP).

The SI could handle anything from floods to bone dry with no problem.  The punisher started to read early once the shot broke down.  So I would move in, and that would work for a while.  Once it started reading early along that line, I took out the smokin, moved about 5 boards left...and had no problems.

I had no problems getting my smokin to the breakpoint cleanly, whereas all of my other equipment was reading early.

It has a 5" pin, so I actually have it drilled a little bit above and to the right of my middle finger, CG in palm.

would that be similar to brunswick 4L?

I'm just trying to figure out what drill pattern to use with this particular ball.  The SI I use is drilled 2L and I can't keep it on the lanes.  I pretty much determined that this will end up my oil, heavy oil ball.

The above comments mirror my experiences with the Smokin' and Punisher almost perfectly.  My Punisher (drilled 4L) is earlier than my Smokin' (drilled 2E), and is *much* weaker at the break.  For me, the Punisher isn't the option that I go to when I need more length than what the Smokin' is giving me;  in that case, I go straight to my Power Groove Dry/R.

bracket creep

having your punisher drilled 4L, does it still hook?  I'm concerned that I'll lose the hook that I desire.  Granted I'm a high rev med speed bowler.

I have no problems getting my Punisher to hook;  it's *where* it hooks that can be a bit troublesome at times.

I've found that my Punisher works best for me on conditions where I can play more direct, including some oilier mediums where there is a strong back end or some dry to the right.  When I have to move in and go more left-to-right with the Punisher, it does have some trouble turning the corner unless I can dial my speed down and increase axis rotation.  However, with the amount of hand that you have, you will probably not experience this to the extent that I do.

same here BC, and from what I've heard from others here, the punisher works a lot better playing straight up to the breakpoint.

Though it was a versatile enough ball that as long the backends were clean I could play down and in, the gutter, or inside with the proper adjustments.
