Problem with Brunswick TPU-X shoes
« on: April 16, 2017, 07:07:20 PM »
I am a right handed bowler and though I love these TPU-X shoes the one problem I am having is the right shoe sole tends to keep peeling back on it. I just replaced it the second time and the new one is already starting to lose it's grip and once it loses it's grip it will not hold and tends to catch sometimes in my shot. Not sure what I can do about this. I really like the shoes but I can see this as an ongoing problem.

Peels from the toe area? Just place the sole back from the edge

I'll give that a try but I may have to replace it again because it won't hold now because it's peeling from the side and not the tip.

Are you a toe dragger? I drag around my big toe and used a velcro strip to help but it didn't last too long. I like the shoes but I'm going to be switching back to Dexter I think

I had the same problem the edge of the sole would drag and the velcro would no longer stick to the shoe,

KR sent me a replacement and said to just fudge it over a little away from the edge to stop it.

I thought I could do something better.

I moved the sole back approx 1/16" per KR recommendation.  It helped for a while.

The last sole I put on about 2 months ago, I took a sharp knife and beveled the edge of the sole where my toe drags.  Seems to work well.

One thing I have noticed:  The blue Brunswick soles are much thicker than the red Brunswick soles.  I haven't looked at/tried the Hammer or the KR branded soles as of yet.

I really like the shoes beside of the sole annoyance.  I'll probably pick up another pair to stick on the shelf before they go away for good.  I'm disappointed that the new Hammer and KR Strikeforce shoe of similar design feature "microfiber" (PLASTIC!!!) uppers as opposed to leather.

If you can't find the TPX-U anymore, check out the Pyramid HPX version of the shoe:

They have leather uppers and cost $100 bucks. Not a bad deal. Ive had mine for over a year, and I'm very happy with them. The weakness in these shoes is the flimsy construction of the non-slide (trailing) toe. They have that plastic material around the toe that eventually falls apart if you drag at all. My solution was to have a shoe repair shop cement a strip of non-streak black leather around the offending toe. It looks like a natural extension of the shoe, and it's held up for several hundred games. Others have tried velcro instead of leather, but it's not nearly as durable.

They are good shoes and worth making modifications for durability.

I've had that problem with the right shoe. First, I moved the sole back and that worked for a while. Then I came upon another solution by happenstance: flipping the sole upside down -- the toe part facing towards the heel. But I'll be reduced to finding another pair of shoes if and when that begins failing on me.
