Quantum Elite Limited Edition
« on: August 21, 2005, 01:07:07 PM »
i bought one of these online for cheap.
any of you guys throw this?
what is the coverstock/core?

core stats look exactly like the original inferno
with the .050 diff and 2.6 RG

i have no idea what the coverstock is.
obviously weaker than the inferno.

what drilling suggestions would you have?

here is the ball characteristics chart
http://images.marketworks.com/hi/56/55791/hook_scale.jpg

here is the ball image
http://images.marketworks.com/hi/56/55791/quantum_elite_1.jpg

looks like a dry lane ball to me.
i could be wrong though.

thanks!

Sounds to me like a ball that will give you nine all day, a lot of flare but never will it get into a great roll. And when it touches oil, sounds like you have a washout or a 2-10 split combination.

This ball is no great mystery. Long cover. Early core. It needs some oil up front and plenty of dry on the back. A good ball for a shorter or lower volume fresh pattern or a longer pattern that has broken down some with no carrydown. It is a nice step down from the powerkoil 17 and 18 balls.

This is what Bowlingball.com sent to me when I bought it from them a year ago:

It has a N Control coverstock and the core is almost the same as the original Inferno.

I tend to believe them since as far as I know they commissioned to have the balls made by Brunswick.  But everytime anyone mentions this ball a big brou-ha-ha begins and everyone yells at each other.  Everyone has heard something different from somebody "in the know".  Be it a distributor, someone on Brunswick's pro staff, or whatever.  I can definitely say that it is not polyester. I have a huge collection of plastic balls and the cover that is on it is definitely not a Brunswick polyester.  Being "reminiscent" is completely different from being the same thing.  If it was plastic they would say plastic.  They use the term reminiscent because the ball doesn't act like a typical modern reactive ball.  The weak cover and low RG core mean that the ball does not jerk when it hits the dry.  It is extremely stable and very good for med dry to dry conditions.  This is what is meant by Reminiscent of the Yellow Dot.

It has a weak cover but hits very well on dry because it doesn't burn up.  I have mine polished to about 5000.  It looks like a mirror.  I use it on complete toast in this condition.  When I took it down to 600 and hit it with Perfect-It it was much stronger, but not crazy.  I didn't like it with that surface prep because it rolled funky.  The core would overpower the cover and it hit like a marshmallow.

It is basically a really good "condition specific" ball.  Much like Track's new Desert Heat.  You can't use it on everything, but on drier lanes it is a good choice.

hmmm... where is the good doctor?

there is always someone that talks out of their āss,
    fights about it, imposes will..
and gets blown up by people that actually know what they are talking about.

i dunno where his doctorate is from, its certainly not in equipment
doctor đickhead is more like it...

anyway, i plan on having this ball rot in my closet for a while, ill get it matched up with my quantum fire and red alert plus.

    anyone have drilling recommendations?

I've had a Quantum elite for about 8 months.  It is drilled stacked leverage like my monster slayr and monster bruiser and behaves between them.  On a THS I might get 8 boards from the bruiser, 3 from the slayr, and 5 from the elite.  The elite carries the corners just fine, if I don't try to play too deep.  It definitely carries better than the slayr.  I typically use the elite when the heads dry up.  I have never tried to alter a ball's out-of-box surface, so I can't comment on the amenability of the elite to surface adjustments.

So how would I want to drill this ball if I wanted to use it on actual dry (under red pin zone classic)??

is this ball really a bleeder?
i got it today from UPS and i opened the box and it was covered in a slick substance that was all over the ball, protective bag and the box.
i wiped it off with brunswick remove all cleaner and simple green.

the box was all greasy lookin...
it hasnt been hot here the past week, so i dont think heat did anything to the ball.

I hope mine comes tommorrow...But I still don't know how to drill it.  I want to fit it under my red pin zone classic.  It'd also be my spare ball (But I can throw it with forward roll, so that's not an issue).  Do you guys think a normal pin over ring should suffice?  Or should I go over bridge?

what do you mean by plastic?
the plastic bag that it comes in?
or the residue that comes out of it?

    ill tell you one thing...
this thing was covered in liquid when i got it.
    it feels like vegetable oil.
    smells like nothing.

this ball is going to be interesting when i get it drilled.
it probably wont be drilled for a year, so a_ak57 you'll have to let me know how it performs for you after you get it drilled.

i think if this cover is really PK14 you might want to get it drilled just like my uranium with the pin closer to your midline (pic in sig).
i still think it will break late, just needs a little help turning over.

i have it totally clean, and i grab it with my hand and its not nearly as tacky (porous) as my inferno.

i think pin over your fingers will be a problem, i really think length drillings with this are out of the question.

there are a couple of people in this thread that have it drilled, maybe they'll chime in with what works for them.
