Question about Brunswick International Zone Series?
« on: February 03, 2007, 06:00:55 PM »
Hi guys, my girlfriend is looking to upgrade from an old plastic ball to her first reactive ball.  It will be a 12 pound ball and hoping for it to be a good ball for her to learn on and to be able to use for a long time.  We were looking at Brunswick's International Express Zone H and was wondering if anyone had any experience or opinion on it.

http://www.brunswickbowling.com/express_zone_h_-_new

Bowlingball.com seems to have this ball for 99.99 on their website but a new 12 pound version can usually be won on ebay for about 40.00-45.00 shipped.  It seems like a good ball but the fact that all the descriptions say that it's designed to accomodate "asian lanes" makes us a bit nervous since we're not exactly sure what that means.  We're not exactly sure what type of lane conditions our local lanes are since we don't really bowl at many different bowling alleys.  If it helps, we normally bowl at Fountain Bowl at Fountain Valley, CA (location of the Dick Weber Open that just occured few weeks ago).

How would this ball stack up against other Brunswick lines such as the Vapor Zone or BvP Wizard?  Would the Vapor zone really be worth nearly 3 times the price?  Thanks guys!

I don't know about the international balls but i believe that the balls you get under 13lbs are just pancake cores so you won't really get the value you are after there. The inferno line has the core down to 12, I got an intense for my niece and she has done well with it in 12lb.  Otherwise you might as well just grab a power groove.

I have a brunswick international series ball....a Bionic Zone 1 ss extreme, and that is a great ball...actually had one local proshop guy tell me that he wished he could stock those international balls, that they are actually better than the ones made for us markets.  Anyhow, the one I have really works well for me, and as with anyball depending on the bowler, you can always adjust out on the lanes.

I have thrown some of there international balls in the past, and have a couple NIB sitting around; I think they are good balls. I would  email Brunswick to find out about the cores in that 12lb ball, because I emailed them and Dynathane about 3 years ago and they said they put there regular core in the 12lb balls.

I started my dauughter with a pair of 12 lb International Zone balls last year (purchased NIB on this site). They worked great, and now are still in use by a couple of her teammates. She is using 14 lb this year, and she has another IZ and its also worked well.

The weight block shown in the link... is that the old Command Zone block? Not sure at all, but that grenade shaped core seems familiar.

P.S. The 12 lb balls were the Majestic Zone I and II. The 14 lb is a dark blue color called the Red Alert.

The Express Zone H is a good heavy oil ball. The Pk24 cover is a little bit
stronger than the Activtor. The core is same with the Inferno with higher RG, 12lb-16lb use the same core. So don't worry. If u can find a Express Zone S,
(the Vapor Zone), don't miss it also.

So would the Express zone S be a better overall ball than the Express zone H to use for various lane conditions?

Yes, IMO, I think S is better than H.

The international balls are close to the high end stuff from the regular releases. Especially the oilers ("H") are pretty strong with their PK 22 and now PK 24 coverstocks. I'd even rate them more aggressive than an Activator solid ball, and the cores (some use the old Raging Red Fuze core) are pretty strong, too. The "S" balls are close or even equal to the Absolute Inferno - mostly they are just color versiosn of existing balls.

For details about EZH, check this:

Some overview about current cores in the balls might be found here:
http://www.brunswickbowling.com/uploads/1Y/Sw/1YSwpBVAZparejId4yoPLA/Ball-dynamics-all-weights-Jan07.pdf

A 12 pound ball should have a dynamic core, even if bit is generic and not the high end core from the heavier weights. But to be sure, I'd also contact Brunswick directly.

Asian lanes very seldom have a lot of oil.

So, what did you end up buying?

Bowlingball.com now has the 11-13lb Express Zone H's for $60 shipped.

i dont know much about the express S and H, but i do know that the mighty zone II is a monster, had to polish it to tame it down and it still hits like madness. i like the ball so much i bought an extra to have it just in case.

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one
