Question about Vapor Zone fine tuning
« on: April 21, 2006, 09:20:31 AM »
I layed out a Vapor Zone for a friend of mine with a 45 degree layout (came out to be 5 x 4.5 pin/PSA to PAP) and left the surface box finish and left it without a weight hole for now. Watching him throw it, it makes a strong move in the midlane and then lays off. Basically a hook-stop motion. This is on a typical house shot. Same thing on the USBC Nationals shot that was laid out recently at our home house, although not as pronounced. He is a tweener with high 16MPH speed and a 4 7/8 over and 5/8 up PAP.

I would like to try and tame the midlane move just a bit, push the breakpoint down some and get some continuation through the pins if possible. I'm thinking of a hole on the axis and/or maybe a hint of polish right over the Rough Buff finish. I could also hit it with Abralon and Brunswick High Gloss. I also have Ebonite and Track polishes available.

Any suggestions and comments?

By no means do you want an axis hole.  That will bring the breakpoint even closer to you, and make it lay off more on the backend.  I would adjust the surface first.  I like my vapor at 2000 abralon, with some clean and tacky on the pad.  Take the surface up in incriments until you find something he likes.  If you can't fin anything and you want to add a hole, I would suggest below the axis point past the VAL.  That should raise the bowtie, and in turn, add length to the ball.  But surface is much easier than adding a hole.

Bet money his ball reads the lane way to soon. Super similar layout and specs to my game. What I did was sand it to 600 and then hit it with a little brunswick polish give me the smoothest reaction.
