My A game is playing the track area, usually strait up 11-8, or a small swing shot in that area when the lanes break down. I continue to practice playing inside more with other equipment, but that is taking some time to get used to. In the meantime I would like to find something with the same roll and reaction as my Smokin that can handle a little more oil. A lot of other houses put out a THS, just a heavier volume of oil in the track area and in the center of the lanes and I need something that matches up better on them.
Im a righty, pap is 4 5/8 over and 1/2 up. Speed is 15.5 at the pins and I have low to med revs, considered a stroker by most. The Smokin is drilled around 5X4 I think. Its a 3-4 inch pin ball and the pin is above and to the right of the ring finger, CG is kicked out a little bit and it has a weight hole to make it legal. With my slower ball speed this ball gets through even the most burnt heads clean, starts to rev up in the mids and makes a strong arc to the pocket. Very controllable for me and I just love the ball and its reaction.
I prefer to keep my arsenal as simple as possible so other than a plastic spare ball the only thing else I bring to league is a Black Widow. The BW was drilled pin down so I could use it on heavier oil or play in deeper, and it works well for that, however im just not consistent enough with it yet to use it for tournament play. The Smokin is a lot more consistent for me even when I dont throw great shots. If I had to guess I would say its the sym core and pearl coverstock that match up better for me. When I toss bad shots I usually get slow with timing and then muscle the ball to catch up pulling the shot or I lean forward too much and kill my leverage. So I think the sym core is more forgiving if my speed and rotation are not spot on, and the cover will hold the line more if I pull it.
I also have a Monster Bruiser and a Scorching, both drilled for med arc reactions that I use for a summer sports shot league. Ive tried the Scorching on THS and just dont care for it. For me the ball burns up too fast even after taming down the drilling. So I keep it at 500 and save it to use on longer flatter oil patterns. In reserve I have a Quantum Blue Denim, an Original Inferno, and a second Smokin that are ready to be drilled up, but am fine with adding something newer to the arsenal if needed.
So that sums it all up, I know its a lot to digest. I do work with a coach to continue to improve my game, and am not looking for a ball to fix all my problems. What im looking for is something that will compliment the Smokin and work with my game right now.
thanks
