tiny holes on my new ball?
« on: May 21, 2007, 07:36:05 PM »
Is it a problem ?

I just picked up a NIB red zone. I barely played with it, less than one game. I noticed tiny holes, very small like pin size, a few larger where the words are. For example, where the "Red Zone" work is, or the brunswick logo, anything that isn't red has tiny holes on it. Is it a manufacture flaw?

It dones't look so nice, but i wonder if i can even get it replaced.... cuz i didn't notice it till now.

In the coverstock or in the engravings material? Anyway, I'd say this is a production blem, so ask your pro shop for a replacement. This is IMHO a bigger issue, more than cosmetical.

my agent did that after a bowled with it in a crappy house with burned up lanes. looks like someone rolled it out on the payment. after bowling with it the holes when down and almost disappeared.

It sounds like very small air bubbles, but I'm not sure since I can't see it.  They won't affect the ball's performance, but if they are bad enough, some companies will classify the ball as a "blem", but only for cosmetic reasons.

I've had them on equipment over the years and never saw any detrimental effect on the ball's performance or durability.  I wouldn't worry about it, but if you want, you can always take it to your pro shop and see if their distributor will replace it.

Your pro shop should be able to resolve it with their distributor. Ours works with us on these issues.
The distributor can, in turn, contact with Brunswick if they want to.  But that is the chain of command: 1- pro shop, 2- distributor, 3- Brunswick.

I'll consult my proshop today. Thanks.

It sure looks like airbubbles, it only occurs at the engraving material. Not the ball surface. Meaning, where the words "red zone", "brunswick" or the brunswick logo "B".

Hopefully I get some sorta refund. I don't like how my new ball looks broken. Hurts >.<

Guy on my team bought one of the Punishers from Buddies
and the surface looked that way.  They refunded him the money
for the ball as it was determined to be defective.

Kudos to Dannial Cohen in ATL for getting that puppy repaired.
Surface had night/day difference after he put in his hrs of
elbow grease.

Only on the label... In fact, just the filler material inside the label. I would imagine that 75% of my labels have some tiny spots like you're describing.  Who cares?  Wait until you throw it a few games and it gets a scratch or two.  Is the bowling center going to buy you a new one?  My guess is that they will offer to repair it (unless it's beyond repair), and what will you do?
Bowling balls go through a lot of abuse and they still perform for a long time, and you're worried about some tiny air bubbles on the label?
The Red Zone is a great ball. Just throw it and watch the pins fly and then those tiny imperfections on the label will seem as insignificant to you as it does to many of us.  Good luck.

I don't know how many times I've read this and still am not sure if you mean bubbles on the ball surface or bubbles in the paint of the engraving!!

Its bubbles on the filler on the engraving yes...

I asked the pro shop, he said its normal. Doesn't affect the performance of the ball.

and if it ever cracks for that reason or any other reason this early in its life... i get a new ball for free so i guess no complains
