just wondering what balls your guy were using on light short oil like the Cheetah pattern and what layouts and surface preps your were going with.

CHeetah usually isn't light oil. Something mild, reactive, drilled to roll a little earlier with some surface should give a nice read.

just because the cheetah pattern is "only" 36 feet in length it usually has the most oil by volume. you'll see many players using a dull solid reactive or particle ball on that lane pattern. when i was bowling pba regional tournaments i usually saw the cheetah pattern on brunswick synthetic lanes which are very hard and very smooth. surface on your ball is more important than the type of drilling pattern. there was one tournament where i used a brunswick mammoth wetsanded 220 grit.

Yup, Cheetah is tricky. What you need is a controllable break point, length is due to the oil "block" up front rarely a problem. From my arsenal, the Revolution Renegade (polished solid ball, similar to Avalanche Solid) has been very effective, and I'd suggest something similar (medium strength reactive, maybe even with sopme light surface or polished with a light particle load), but that is just a rough direction.
