Radical Inferno reaction
« on: November 11, 2006, 01:57:11 PM »
just curious how you guys all like your radicals.  Mine just won't hook.
drilled like this
        o
      0 0
          .
       0
goes really straight for me, thinking of taking it to a 4000 abralon to knock the polish off and get some reaction out of it.  any thoughts?

Didnt a cover stock prep sheet come with the ball? There should have been one (provided you bought this ball from a reputable online shop or local pro-shop). The sheet basically tells you what to do with the surface if the OOB finish isnt working for you. I think the sheet says 2000 grit polished or something like that, I dont have the sheet in front of me to double check it.

Hey Brandon!

It's been a while since I've seen you bowl, but maybe you could answer a few questions before I give you a response.

Where are you bowling? Xcalibur, Zone, T&C, Rev's?
You are right handed correct?

The radical does hook. It is a little too shiny OOB. Don't be afraid to hit it with 1000 abralon. I did that with my low pin(check my arsenal) and I still get decent length from the cover. Remember the #1 factor of overall hook is the coverstock.

Plus you have to physically be able to impart revs and rotation to the ball, which I am pretty sure you do. You bowled team trials last year right?

Take the cover down a little and let me know.

reason that i m worried to take it down to 1000 im a bit worried about it not having a defined breakpoint.  I am planning on using it on wood (dogwood, revs) and at tnc which is a drier synthetic house with weaker backends.  I find it kinda weird that I have an action packed at 2000 polish with a 5" pin drilled pin above and the cg in the palm that outhooks it by a couple boards.  I was just looking for the radical to be like the action packed with just a more defined move at the bp.

BTW the picture i drew didn't quite turn out the way I had originally.
The drilling is like Corey's HP, but the cg kicked out another inch.
I'll go with a smooth abralon and see where that takes me.  thanks for help!

i worked it down to a 4000 abralon and then to 2000.  hits great now, is about 2 feet earlier and has a more defined move at the bp.  in 3 games i got the 1 pin to messenger the 7-10 4x.  much better when it has been sanded lightly.

Glad you got it to work. This ball is a beast for me. From everyone I talked to and see throw one is when the Pin is above fingers you need to knock the polish off with it below fingers it works best oob.

At the risk of violating a copyright, here's an excerpt from the insert from the Radical box:

"If you bowl on a lane condition where your Radical Inferno goes too long and struggles to make a strong backend move, Brunswick strongly recommends that you remove the polish from the ball with a burgundy Scotch Bright (sic) pad, or similar aggressive abrasive, then use the Grey and White Scotch Bright pads, or the 500 & 1000 grit Abralon pads to create a dull, but very smooth surface finish."

Thing is that the Radical is good, but didn't do for me quite what it was supposed to.  Wasn't as strong or angular as I expected.  Its still a good ball, but I just can't imagine how much hand you'd need to make it work in box finish.

i hated the thing when i first got it, same thing - couldn't get it to corner how it was supposed to. Went to the proshop many weeks later and told them to adjust the cover to be like the vapor zone. WOW! what a difference. Haven't shot under 650 since then. Brunswick rules.

I am not a high end Rpm bowler by any means but on my house shot for my league I cant use it,it snaps to hard OOB.This ball is out hookin my particle ball. If I go down and pratice on any other day/night of the week it perfect but for league I cant use it at all.

Danny,

Same situation here. Take the surface down a little to smooth out the reaction at the breakpoint. It makes the ball much more readable, and will create a little more margin of error. This coverstock is very versatile and can be changed dramatically to match up.
