What if you took a radical inferno, placed the pin under the ring finger/ cg out and put a light surface on it. Would this be a medium control ball or does it have too much on the back. Would the red zone be better or something else?

i would say the RZ would be better because thats what it was made for, or maby a wizard. i hear the ambush is pretty smooth.

Could definitely be a medium ball, but not control with that layout. Depending on your axis, that is somewhere in the range from 4 - 5 inches. If you are looking for control, AMBUSH baby.......Or drill the Radical with the pin closer to your axis. Check out mine...It is all about the control....

Layout is 2X2 for my axis coordinates....That would work better for you..

Jason, what if you had the pin in a simlar position but moved the cg closer to the midline. What I'm looking for is a ball that I could use at Nationals. This year I used a action packed w/pin over ring/cg out for team and a supper tropper similar drill, for singles/doubles and shot around 1800. I'am tring to build a brunswick arsenal, I have a smoking w/pin up cg out and a rampage pin up over bridge cg out, I guess I need some ideas for the arsenal.

If you moved the CG closer to the midline, that will provide more of an arc reaction off the breakpoint. I can help you with the arsenal but I need more info. Do you know your axis coordinates? How about your speed? This info will help me know your game a little better. Also how many balls are you talking about for your arsenal?

I'am a right handed bowler with 16 ball speed, 350 rev rate I think they call me a power tweener my axis rotation is between 45 - 6o degree most of my equipment is drilled w/pin up around the ring finger. I bowl about 5 tournaments a year in the midwest and SASBA tournaments.
current arsenal:
Action - hvy
Action - med\hvy polished
Power Drive - skid\flip
Hyjinx - med\light
Jinx - lighter conditions

Jason with that drillig do you still have some backend reaction?
I have a ball with this drilling but it doesnt have any backend really due to the surface and core, but that is how I wanted it.

I though about getting one drilled like that but I still wanted a moderate backend reaction. That and does this cover pickup in the oil at all or is it a dry board only move at say 1000 grit?

Vagabond, the layout is really meant to have minimal backend. That is the case with mine. Due to the nature of the ball though, the Radical will backend a little better with this layout than a ball that is more even in nature. But my Radical was layed out for a certain condition. If you can find Brunsnicks video from Vegas Part 2, he has his layed out a little more flippy. The ball is very clean and very strong on the backend. If you already have a ball in your arsenal with this layout, I would try something else. It is a very condition specific layout.

Ok Jee I still dont know your axis but thats ok. I am not gonna stick with the same number of balls that you have now, but I will try to match some of the reactions. The only thing I see is that you have most of your gear drilled the same which is ok for bowling leagues. In tourneys you need an arsenal that is versatile and different layouts will give you that. You already have 2 flippy balls in your lineup, the Smokin and the Rampage.

1. Scorchin Inferno - pin under ring CG kicked out at 30 deg. Weight hole 2 inches down from your axis. This will be your oil ball.

2. Radical Inferno - pin above ring, Cg in the center of grip. This will be medium

3. Red Zone - pin under middle finger - Locator Pin in strong postion should be around 30 deg. Weight hole on axis. This will get you down the lane from deeper and around the corner.

4. Wizard - if you are gonna have an all Brunswick arsenal, you have to have this ball in your bag. Drill it with your favourite pin above ring layout. This will be your benchmark ball.

5. Ambush - This is still my favourite ball. Drill this one with your fav layout as well.

Then you already have the Smokin and Rampage. You could also throw in a Punisher for dryer lanes. The BVP series is great and well priced. With all those balls you would have 8 and will pretty much cover everything. Hope this helps. Like I said it is hard for me to help you without seeing you bowl, so your pro shop guy should be able to help you better with the layouts, but the choice of balls you cant go wrong with....

Thanks Jason, what I have done is this;

Brunswick Arsenal:

Have a re-drilled Stike Zone pin under ring cg out for med/hvy
Smoking pin up between bridge cg out for med/light
Rampage similar drill as the smoking highly polished for drying heads

Will Get:
Schorchin drill as you have indicated for hvy
Red Zone as you indicated
Wizard " " "

Jason, isn't your Radical a stacked leverage drill? My Smokin' is drilled similar. And you said your Radical is a control layout?

I thought leverage was for max. backend??

Nope its not leverage cause my axis is 4 1/2 and 7/8 up. The pin is actually 2 inches from my axis. Very early rolling and controllable. Stacked leverage would be 3 3/8 stacked.

No problem Highrevs. If I were you though, make sure that you know what your axis is before drilling it like mine. What is a control layout for me may be stacked leverage for you depending on your pap. If you do not plan on bowling tournaments on shorter patterns, then I would not recommend this layout. Try more of something like this for league. Pin a little right of the ring finger and CG toward the center of grip.

Jason, my control layout would be for mainly for tougher tournament conditions (flatter). Like the the USBC National. League house shot i use my Smokin' or Vapor (drilled strong, stacked). So i'll drill up a Radical or Scorchin' like similar to yours or pin right of ring, cg toward center. thanks.
