« on: May 29, 2005, 11:17:53 PM »
I have a great big problem with my AI.It seems to be all to strong for the synthetic 40 feet( i think)pattern.I play a very deep line and i am a cranker.I am thinking of sanding it to 1500 grit ang putting high gloss polish.Suggestions, anyone?

Since its current finish is the equivalent of a compound, you might first try a light polish on top of the "rough buff"/out of the box finish. If that does not give you enough length, then try a 1000 grit sanding, followed by Brunswick's High Gloss Polish or other non-grit polish. Better to try smaller steps first so as not to pass the one that works right for you and having to start all over.

I think because of the frequency that i use the ball, the polish is all gone, it looks sanded.I have put in about 300 games on the ball although i only had it for 2 months.

If you haven't touched up the surface in 300 games, YES, It was WAY, WAY overdue. Get some of Brunswick's "Rough Buff" (Here's one source:
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/1646/Brunswick+Rough+Buff+Polish+%2D+6oz+bottle.htm)
And apply it to this ball SOON.

You have to keep an eye on balls. If yo uwant the same reaction, touch them up every so often, depending on the wear rate - maybe every 40-60 games.

Try small amount of Storm Step 1. Use light pressure around 30secs two sides.. The more you apply pressure, more shine than the "factory finish look" you will have. Need to be carefull..

As wise man said above "Better to try smaller steps first so as not to pass the one that works right for you and having to start all over.. charlest "

I just got it shined up yesterday at my cOACH'S proshop to 800 grit and applied Storm Diamond Gloss, equvilent to 2500 grit polish. He also put Storm Reacta Shine to delay the hook even later. I am going to try it today and hopefully give me a mmmmmmuuuuuccccchhhhhhh later roll. If it does not work, i think i will put some Track Delayed Reaction.

xwenhan,

Storm Diamond Gloss suppose to shine the ball up around 5000 grit level, NOT 2500.. That is Storm Step 3 which will smooth the surface up to 2500 grit..
Also, putting Storm Reacta Shine over Diamond Gloss to delay the reaction sounds a bit weird. Reacta Shine is a cleaner polish and gives appr. 1500 grit shine..
I really couldn't understand the purpose..

I have not tried Delayed Reaction, but if you want later roll even after application of Diamond Gloss, you must sand the ball to a much finer grit before polish.. Like wet sanding to 2000 grit..

Just be cautious with polishes with grit in it. Diamond Gloss or even "plain" Xtra Shine will get you a 1000 grit, a 1500 grit or 2000 grit shine, DEPENDING on how much you use, how hard you press, how long you press. The same with the Storm "Step" polishes, BECAUSE they have grit in them. You have to learn to "eyeball" it to get to the point where you need/want it to be.

Diamond Gloss does not automatically get you 5000 grit, nor does Xtra Shine automatically get you 3500 grit shine with any and every application.

Yes charlest, good point. They do NOT automatically get you X grit.. All depends on the pressure and time you spend on the spinner..

My referring point was:
quote:
...applied Storm Diamond Gloss, equivalent to 2500 grit polish. He also put Storm Reacta Shine to delay the hook even later...

From what I understand from this sentence, since very high gloss was intended, enough pressure and time might have been used in the process for the maximum grit level of the product can do..

Sadly, my ball is still overreacting, maybe its my style... anyway, my friend is going to sell me his original inferno for S$60 or about US$35. Any ideas how it should be drilled ???

my question is why would you want to? we have got to learn to reserch balls by numbers and specs and then some. by doing this we can find a ball that fits what we need or just want. the abby is an aggressive ball look at the specs, you just dont see a 2.4 rg with a .50 diff. 2.4 is very which means the ball is going to start up fast, not going to get all that length we normally see out of a ball. on top of that .5 diff is huge on backend, then there's your style and the shot your playing on and all that jazz, basically i think you got the wrong ball and its not a surface change you need rather a ball change.

if you get the o g inferno then you might get a lil' more play simply bcuz the cover is not as strong. but you might want to consider the shock and awe or even the intense. surely to give you the distance and that hard turn if its you doing the over-acting.
