Strike Zone or Vapor Zone?
« on: April 11, 2006, 12:09:15 PM »
2 ball challenge. 16 wk league; 4 games across 4 pairs using a different pba pattern each week. Can use either a Strike Zone or Vapor Zone and Ambush or Rampage. Can alter the surface prior to play. I'm going with the Ambush (already have 2) but am a bit undecided on the SZ or VZ (also own both).

I love my VZ but question whether it will be as versatile as the SZ on the heavier/longer patterns considering any coverstock adjustments that might be made. Or is it six of one and half a dozen of the other?

Opinions please.

I agree with Bob. I own the SZ, VZ, and Rampage. All great balls.
The SZ and VZ are my favoirte. They cover a variety of lane conditions
and are very versatile. The SZ is truly good on Heavy Oil. Good Luck.

if you are set on the ambush then go SZ theres a major overlap in the VZ and ambush IMO.  I would go with the Two Zones and have the Vapor nice and shiny with the Strike dull enough to get strait up the boards in heavy oil that would lend it to swinging a medium and the VZ could handly med to light.  I would also drill the vz for a control drill and the SZ for a bit more "pop"

You can ony chose between the SZ and VZ and then between the Rampage and Ambush.

Thanks for the responses. Funny though because my Ambush absolutely shines when the lanes have broken down. When the Rampage starts to overreact my ambush is still smooth as silk. I can play a swing shot with it or deep inside, where the Rampage seems more condition sensitive. I figured with both the SZ and Ambush I'd have more tweaking options with the coverstock.

Any more opinions? I probably have a day or two to change my mind. As for now I have specified the Ambush and SZ.

i'd say stick with what you got.

with the SZ, you potentially have a ball that handles heavy stuff OOB.
and something that is closer to medium with some shine.

the ambush will clean up the mess of carry down/spotty conditions created by the SZ and everyone else on the lane with the particle cover and handle med to med-light.

dynomite 2 ball combo.

go get em'!

That was my basic stratagy too. My Ambush has performed best in the later games when the heads are drying up and carrydown has taken away that "bump". It just seems to ignore these transitions and creates a very smooth and predictable arc with good carry. It's saved many a series this year for me and shot 1-300 with it (in the 4th game of a Masters league).

Thanks for everyone's opinions

have you thought about picking up a Raging Inferno?

Raging Inferno? In the 2 ball Challenge you are restricted to using only the balls the center offers. I do have a Raging Inferno and no offense but it has sat in my closet gathering dust. Brunswick has some great equipment, the RI was not one of them (imho).

If it were me...Vapor and Ambush.  Vapor for playing direct, and to smooth the transition from front to back.  Ambush for clearing drier heads, and recovery from inside lines.
