Mamoth Problem
« on: March 07, 2008, 09:34:18 AM »
I recently received a new Mammoth and I've been experiencing a problem. Have it drilled out with the  pin below and between the fingers out of box surface. The ball goes as straight as an arrow. We added a flare increasing hole down the VAL four inches from the pin. Ball still goes straight as an arrow. There is no separation in the track lines. I was excited about the ball with nationals only a few moths away , but this ball has been a real disappointment so far. Does anyone have any suggestions or should I chalk it up as a loss and move on. Any help is greatly appreciated.

if you're not throwing it on a flood, out of box it is most likely burning out

this is a high load particle ball with the surface wetsanded 400 grit from the factory. this is the most aggressive surface ever used on a ball from brunswick. it is designed for heavy oil. is it possible you aren't bowling on enough oil and the ball is burning up ?  is your ball speed very high ( 20+ mph )?  do you use a spinner release ? or are the lane you usually bowl on very slick and don't get cleaned very often ?

if your ball is burning up you may need to smooth out the surface of the ball with a finer grit of abrasive.

if however it's one of the other problems you may need to use a coarser grit of abrasive.

Try bringing the surface to a highr grit.  2000 abralon around there and if it still doesnt do anything. It could possibly be a bad coverstock issue. We had drilled a Battle for someone and the cover would not absorb oil at all.

Thanks for the input folks. I always thought that if it was burning up it would start to hook and die, am I wrong? I'm more of a power tweener. I put a reasonable amount of turn on the ball but no where near a Robert Smith Type. My ball speed is some where between 16- 17 mph home house strips and oils every day. It is a short pattern only 36 ft buff to 38ft. The confusing part is the no separation of the track. Is this a sign of being burnt. Thanks for the help, I would hate to get rid of a ball if I didn't have to.

Because of your reve rate and experience level and the oil rings, I would have your driller or whomever you bought it, contact Brunswick or its distributor and describe the drilling, your release specs and the oil pattern AND the results. I think there has to be something wrong with the ball.
