Taking Care of Powerkoil 18
« on: May 04, 2005, 03:15:48 PM »
Now that I've got my SmashR, I'm wondering, other than wiping it down between shots, what can I do to make sure that I get the maximum life out my coverstock?

As I understand it, this is one the most durable covers on the market, but I'd still like to keep it in tip top shape.

Whats the best at home cleaner, for using after leagues or practice?

I use the ebonite energizer cleaner. Usually, I use it with a spinner. But sometimes, I do it by hand.

Clean N Dull works pretty well too.

And yes - durability is a GREAT feature of this ball. Enjoy the ball. One of the best I've EVER had.

poerkoil 18 works best dirty just like powerkoil 17... cand it to 600-800 and then let it go for like 50 games and it will be money

Honestly,

Any degreasing cleaner will work for everyday cleaning.

409, simple green, orange blast, etc.

My favorite cleaner was a mix of 80% Simple Green & 20% Neotac Hook-It.

Degreased well & took belt marks off like no one's business.

the best way to maintain this ball besides cleaning after every practice session, league, or tournament is:

1) have the oil extracted from this ball with the rejuvinator---how often ? if your smash/r is dull like from the factory, every 50 games or so. if it's polished, every 100 games.

2) you will need to keep up the coverstock preparation----if it's dull, keep it dull with sandpaper, scotch-brite pads, or abralon pads. if it's polished, keep it polished. brunswicks factory finish high gloss polish works great.

3) resurface the ball with a haus-type machine every 100 games or so.

If oil absorption is your concern, you may want to consider using Doc's Magic Bowling Ball Elixir.  I put a coat of the Elixir on my SmashR, and with regular cleanings, I saw no noticeable decrease in ball reaction over time.
