Red Zone drilling sheet..Did my driller screw up

Just bought a red zone..told my driller I wanted layout number 4 which shows PIN 4 inches from PAP and to the right of the fingers...CG kicked right and Locator PIN beween thumb and Axis.

What I GOT was PIN under fingers( 5 inches from Pap if he did it correctly), CG kicked to the right BUT locator pin NOT between my thumb and axis..it is in the general location but to the right of the axis. I have a low track. Did he screw up the drilling or did he modify it because of my low track? Are the drilling instructions just a guide line?

Going to roll it in league play tonight for the first time and will get back to you on what it does but jsut wanted to know what I should expect.

Yeah, he probably didn't screw anything up, sounds like he's actually a good driller.  Those pictures are just general reference points for people with a more common track, which seems to be about a 5-5 1/2 axis point.  I drilled a ball for a friend, and we used that same layout for his Scorchin, but since his axis point is 2 1/2 over and 1 1/2 up, it ended up looking like a LEFTHANDED drill.  The lower your track is, the shorter your axis will be, hence the further right your fingerholes will be.  He probably had to modify it a bit though, otherwise it sounds like he'd have had to drill out the pin or it would have been your bridge . . which is not a good thing.

Brunswick... and all companies in general. Can we please get rid of the drilling sheets that come with the ball. It does not help anyone, it only makes people question the knowledge and experience of the pro shop operator.

I've drilled balls that were 4" p2p and the pin was next to the middle finger.  Pictures mean nothing.

Have you thrown this ball?  If so, does it do what the layout description says?

If you've measured your pin to pap distance and its not what you asked for, he drilled it incorrectly.  That does not mean that it will be a poor drilling for you, its just not what you asked for.  I sometimes will leave certain things up to my pro shop owner, but usually I conferr with him and we come to an agreement on the layout.

If however you looked at the sheet and looked at your ball and see a different look its very possible that you just have a different pap measure than what the sheet uses as the pap.  If I'm not mistaken it uses something it the 4 1/2 over 0 up/dwn range.  If your pap is like 3 over this would account for the discrepancy in appearance.

A couple tid bits of info, while most low trackers have a lower pap measure (ie: 3" over or so), a low track does not necessarily guarantee this.  The same thing for a high tracker can occur.  One's pap takes into account more than track diameter.

Depending on your track diameter however certain layouts may be better than others.  If we take a person with a pap of 4" over that has a high track diameter aka low degree of tilt, they may need a higher pin above mid than a person with the same pap and a lower track diameter and a higher degree of tilt, to obtain the same look.

If you have a low track, pin under under fingers is not 5 inches from your PAP. I am a medium/high track player and pin under bridge is about 5 inches from my PAP (5 over 1/8 up). He is probally in the right neighborhood. Since you track low, you want pin under your fingers to help get the ball in a roll IMO anyway. Take a look at these Morich drill sheets. It shows the difference between where a high track players pin would be and a Low track players pin would be.

When you say that for you the pin would be aprox 5" from your pap you are correct.  When you say if you have a low track pin under the fingers is not 5" from your pap you could very well be wrong.  There is a reason that pap and tilt are not interchangeable.  One can track low and still have a pap in the 5" over range.  They would be said to have that pap measure and a high degree of tilt (aka low track diameter).

One other thing because the sheet says pap greater than 5 1/2" and track high, the sheet is an approximation.  Usually those that track high have a pap of around 5" over, however there are quite a few exceptions.

Thanks for all the replies...I just got back from practicing. Brought my ultimate inferno and red zone. The red zone still went longer then my polished 200 game ultimate and snapped hard. The ultimate started to hook earlier set and roll hard killing the pins... I am going to use 1000 abralon on the RZ to see if I can get it to roll earlier and more arcing. Just more controlable for me and better carry at my house.

I was able to move more inside and swing the Red zone but left more 10 pin. Just could not get it to finish as hard as the ultimate.
