Red Zone vs Strike Zone
« on: July 04, 2006, 11:06:18 AM »
I looked over recent posts and couldn't find some basic comparisons.

Brunswick's specs seem to say that the Red Zone is just a polished red Strike Zone  but the numbers for length, hook and breakpoint shape seem to say that the cover is weaker than the SZ's, not just a polished version.

Who has compared them personally or seen them with similar drillings?
WHAT/WHY is the Red Zone?

Please allow me to rephrase that:
The Brunswick numbers seems as if the Red Zone used the (equivalent of a) polished PK 17 solid coverstock, while the Strike Zone used the (equivalent of a) dull PK 18 solid coverstock.

Yes, a polished solid is weaker than a dull solid of the exact same type/brand, in that it will skid further and handle less oil.

SZ is less flippy than the RZ. Thanks.

The red zone is somewhat tweaked version of strike zone

I never go by Brunswick's numbers.  It's more reliable to judge based on the RGs and coverstock.  The Red Zone is nothing more than a polished Strike Zone produced to increase sales.  People could easily polish a Strike Zone for the same effect, but Brunswick makes more money off a new release.

I don't go by them exclusively. They're just another factor. I had not seen many relevant notes on its performance parameters here on this forum. So, I asked.

I know they don't. TA152 was wondering if I thought a polished was not weaker than the same cover dulled.

I was trying to explain what I thought they were comparable to. See, I used the word, "equivalent", in order to give him a sense of the comparison I wanted him to see .....

.....but they dont. both balls use Activator. the SZ uses a solid Activator, as found on the UI, and the RZ uses a polished version of said solid Activator (as i understand it)

watch the vids on Brunswick website...

The only thing different between the balls in the zone line are the cover.  By brunswicks RG numbers for the cores of each ball, the balls each have the exact same core. So the only difference between the strike, red, and vapor is the strength of the cover and the cover finish.

I thought the Red Zone was just the Solid Version of the Classic Zone. I think they wanted the Red Zone to handle a little more oil. That's why i think they discontinued the Classic and came out with the Red Zone. Some thing New also.
