Does the Alpha Max take surface adjustments well?
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:12:35 AM »
Well, out of box I am getting a bit of an over/under reaction from this ball. Has anyone dulled this ball up, results? Has anyone polished it, results? Have not had a good start to the season with this thing and I need to try something otherwise this ball is gonna end up in the dumpster outside the bowling alley!

I took mine to 500 and put a coat of Rough Buff on it and it's really taken to the fresh shots extremely well.  Plenty of midlane read and a strong, controllable move at the end of the pattern.

I was thinking of taking it down to 1000 or maybe even 500 to obtain a more even reaction. I am going to start at 1000 this week and see what happens.

i have only taken different steps of abralon, & the ball has responded nicely to the different surfaces . i have never tried with polish though. that's where the other big b equipment steps in. keep in mind, this ball has a stong cover. it requires decent volume to perform @ it's best.(like any oil ball)

Not having enough oil may be part of the reason as well, although, I have tried my Victory Road and Raw Hammer Burn and both can quite seem to find enough friction to react properly.

I too was seeing quite a bit of over/under with my Alpha Max at oob.  I have tried a couple of different finishes; 1500 polish, 2000ab and 1000ab.  I have found that I like it best at 1000ab, took out the over/under and is very predictable.  Even at 1000 I find it easy to get down lane and still has excellent continuation.  I once hated this ball and almost sold it.  Now it is my go to ball in 3 different houses.

Well, i took a scotch brite pad lightly over the cover of the Alpha. Did this ball ever come to life! I couldnt even get far enough left on the approach to keep this ball in the pocket when i was cranking it. So I started playing hard and up the boards. I was practicing last night just to see what i could and couldnt do and to see where the best line for this ball will be. I think with me throwing hard and up the boards this thing is going to be a beast! If its too much I am just going to ball-down to The Sauce(polish/smooth reaction) but I really think that little bit of scuffing did the trick. I will post my league results on Tuesday.

The Alpha Max has been the ONLY solid reactive ball that I can add more surface than normal for heavy patterns and still make a strong turn!  I kinda' save mine for when I've got fresh oil, and it's been all that it was advertised and more.

On a common house wall I had to bring up with two stages of rough buff.  I left it box after I first got it and I notice that I lost a ton of energy on the back part of the lane.  All I did was ring tens no matter where I played.  Even with all the polish I got on this ball is still turns the corner.  I would try taking it up before taking it down depending on what your bowling on.

After dulling the surface of the Alpha Max with a scatch brite pad lightly by hand, this ball has come to life for me. It does not have that over/ under reaction and it is smoother and much more controllable. even my scores have improved. Last night was my first league match after dulling this thing up. I had game of 214-274-194 for a 682 match. Felt good rolling the ball for most of the night. I should have made a ball change midway through the third game. Overall, I am really going to like this ball now. Thanks for everyones help and opinions.
