Does anybody know the surface finish of the original teal Rhino Pro? Specs or pictures would be nice also! Thanks!

Thanks, Charlest... still kinda' wondering what finish it was sanded to? I just came into possession of one in fairly good shape, and I want to restore it. I might want to actually throw it a few times for the nostalgia factor!

They definitely came out of the box with a sanded finish. Now, what that finish was escapes me; however, you have to remember that those were the days before abralon, so most of those balls were sanded with actual sandpaper. If I had to guess, I would guess it came out at around 500 grit or so. I know that mine rolled at my feet with the box finish. I ended up polishing mine, as did most of the bowlers in my area at that time.

They polished pretty easily though. I was still throwing one in 2004 on dry house shots.

I agree, definitely came sanded. I kept in the OOB condition for a while, bowling in college tournaments and being slightly speed dominant, the sanded finish worked for a while. But it really picked up the grime from the belts in that condition. I could never keep it clean. For house shots, I eventually shined it up as well.

If this is an original, it definitely looks sanded.  I remember them either shining up a lot from lane play or working better polished and shined up.  All the ones that I saw looked pretty shiny.

I polished my original teal Rhino also, as did most everybody else I saw with them. I'm just curious what it might roll like on today's oil patterns...

guy in my scratch league uses one. his looks like he hasnt maintained the surface in 2 years at least (when i joined the league) but it looks like he cleans it so it has a bunch of lane shine to it. our house shots around here are on the light side of medium. if you have a rev rate above 300 you dont need anything stronger than a hyroad or  viral and hes able to play 15-8 with the rhino.
