Goliath Layout help...
« on: June 14, 2006, 01:58:35 AM »
Yo Brunswick Nation!

I just picked up a BVP Goliath from Nationals.
The specs are 15.05lbs, 1.8 Top and 4 inch pin.

I heard this ball is good for Heavy Oil. I want to use it when the lanes
are Heavy up front and have strip backends.

How should i lay this ball out?

My current arsenal and stats are in my profile.

With a clean back end, I'd put the pin above the fingers for a later reaction. This one will grab the lane as soon as you put it down. an idea that comes into my mind is a label drilling which should work on a Goliath since it is symmetric: CG in palm center, Pin above the ring finger hole ro even kicked slightly towards PAP, 4" or so.

I have a TPC Player sanded to 800 grit set up this way, and it would do a nice hook/set job on conditions you want your ball to use on. Very strong midlane read, arcing hook, but then an almost straight finish through the back end where the ball revs up and still hits hard. You will need some fresh head oil, though, but polishing the Goliath from its 400 grit OOB leaves you some room for adjustments.

Just my personal idea, though...

as the goliath is a high load particle ball i'm assuming you will be using it on a fresh, slick condition. for a moderate amount of track flare place the pin next to the ring finger and place the cg near the center of the grip. for maximum track flare place the cg directly under the pin and place a big weight hole down below the midline near the right thumb quadrant. the ball comes from the factory wetsanded 400 grit---pretty aggressive. you can always fine-tune that by coarser or finer grits of sandpaper depending upon how much oil you are bowling on.
