How to drill Mastermind Scholar

Ok Brunswick guys, I have a Mastermind and Mastermind intellect, both drilled 45 x 4 x 30. I keep the Mastermind at 500/1000 no polish and the Intellect at 500/1000 polish with Beans sauce.  The Intellect is usually killer the first two games. If they are playing slick, I can go to the Mastermind firm up ten and follow work in as they break down.

Usually by the third game, the Intellect has me playing around fourth arrow, which is deeper than I prefer. I just ordered the Mastermind Scholar and want to drill it to use the third game behind the Intellect. I know that I will need to set it up weaker than the Intellect, but not sure how much.

I was thinking something like  70 or 75 x 5.5 -6 x 35. Hoping this layout would allow me to make a move right behind the Intellect, and that I can always adjust the surface up or down to fine tune as needed.

I know that the Fortera or maybe the Gold Rhino may be more obvious choices, but I really like the Mastermind Core and the ball motion it is giving me. (I have a Fortera.) I have won about $400 bucks with the Intellect and my average since getting it is up 20 sticks. Some of that is my spare game picking up some, but some of it is the constant predictable roll of the Mastermind core. Reminds me a lots of the virtual gravity.

At box finish on the Scholar you can drill it on the same layout and it will be longer then your other two. Or keep the same layout and move the pin to 5"

I agree that you should go with a bigger drill angle to get a little more length so that you can stay in the same area as your mastermind or mastermind intellect. The mastermind scholar has the pearl version of the Honor Roll A+ coverstock that was on the intellect which will give you more length. I would think that a 75 x 5 x 35 would be a good compliment to give you added length because of the cover and drill angle, will have a little less flare to help smooth out the reaction, but snap harder off the dry because of the pearl coverstock. My mastermind Scholar is a great compliment to the other ones in the series. Mine is drilled similar to the drilling I suggested, and it has the same overall motion as the other mastermind series balls with a stronger motion downlane. Good luck with the new ball.

Thanks for the replies. I do not think that there will be enough separation between the Scholar and the Intellect setting them up the same.

I think I will try the 75 x 5 or 5.5 x 35. Hopefully the 5.5 inch pin to pap will reduce the flair enough to allow me to stay right in my confort zone longer. The Intellect is pretty clean through the front and gives me a nice strong move in the back. You watch it and wonder if it is going to turn over and when it does, it almost surprises you how strong a move it makes, especially on the fresh. When the heads break down, it rolls too early and flares too much so I think this layout should work.

If you're loo for less flare, why not go with a shorter pin to pap?

When I drilled mines I went with the same layout I had on my Genius which wasn't that much off from my Intellect. What I saw was by doing this the cover made the difference for me. I was shocked how clean this ball was. It floats down lane and then the recovery is great. I have done this before with my Guru's and Ringers as well. Very helpful when making ball changes in tourneys and in leagues.
