Title: Scorchin for THS with carry down?
Post by: jdhaze on September 01, 2006, 06:42:35 AM
I gave the Scorchin a good go on heavier oil, and with 2 drillings and several surface changes, it just didnt match up well for me on that condition.  What I need now is a ball that will handle carry down better than my Smokin and Monster Bruiser.  I would like to be able to use it to either ride the oil line on a fresher shot, or use it when there is a ton of carry down and the Smokin and Bruiser are just not finishing well.  Any suggestions on what surface to use.  Right now its at 400 grit, but that was to handle heavy oil.  Not sure if I should take it up to 800-1000 or add some polish.

thanks!

well i dont really know the layout so i couldnt tell you exactally what would be the best, but for carry down on a ths, either 1000 aberloin, or 500 with a decent coat of ruff buff. you would most likely have to play farther in than most anyways due to the nature of the ball its not gonna really pop of the dry like a pearl or weaker solid.

John: Sounds like 1000 abralon with a possible light coat of polish may do the trick. My pro shop guy took one of my balls down to 1000 abralon (I think you remember which one) and I've been bowling very well with it on sport and typical house conditions, it seems to handle carrydown very well. I'm betting at 400 grit you need a ton of oil to not have the Scorchin' burn up on a house shot.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Hey Matt,

Which ball did he take to 1000 grit?  My Bruiser is at 1000, but its drilled fairly week.  I dont have the specs in front of me on the Scorchin, but with my pap at 4 1/2 over, and up 1/2, the pin is about 5 o'clock from the ring finger with the CG stacked.  I guess im too stubborn to give up on this ball, and would like to find a use for it in my arsenal.  So was curious to see what surface others had it at that were using it for a THS.

thanks

My Scorchin burned up on THS even with rough buff applied.  If you're sticking with Brunswick , I would probably go with a Wizard for carrydown.  The Strike Zone is also very good for handling oil.

I like the Activator + covers for carrydown myself. The Vapor Zone and the Absolute have always been GREAT carrydown balls for me.

monstercrank, c'mon buddy!  I have seen you use this spelling too many times!  It is kinda funny, but just wanted to let you know that you had it wrong.
