Scorchin from 600 matte finish to dark glossy colour?
« on: March 20, 2006, 03:31:16 AM »
for all SCI owners...i think a while back, someone posted topic regarding their SCI turning into a darker glossy/shiny colour after about a week or so of using it.  when you first buy the ball, it comes in a 600 matte finish.  it's been a month now and i couldn't figure out as to why i could never restore the original finish on this ball.  at first i thought that that ball was really soaking up too much oil.  it tried to clean the oil up and it was still shiny.  needless to say, i wasn't too happy with the reaction i was getting.  i got to the point of sanding it down to bring it back to the original finish (took the polish off the ball).  i used it for league play and after the session, i cleaned it with the brunswick remove all cleaner and sure enough, the ball had a little gloss.  after all this time which i thought was oil or polish on the ball that i couldn't remove, turns out to be the "ball cleaner" that the ball is soaking up.  damn.   is there any cleaner that will leave the "dull"  balls "dull"?

does your ball come out close to the original finish?

Yep.  The Track Clean and Dull does not leave anything on the ball.

i second that it is the best cleaner out there for dull balls cause alot of the other cleaners as well they clean they tend to polish as well.  But it is only nature that your scorchin is going to lose its dullnes from the lane oil about every 20 games or so i lift the oil with the ebonite hook again then i touch it up very litely with some 600 sand paper on my spinner and it is good to go.

to RevLefty.  what is the proper way of sanding a ball on a ball spinner?   i heard that a ball ca be sanded the wrong waya nd it will totally screw up your ball.

Yeah, well, the Scorchin is great at auto-polishing.  Good ball, if you have enough dry boards or like throwing it slow enough to give it time to rev up . .  Has anybody else not been happy with theirs?  Nobody I know liked theirs, it just doesn't hook near as much as it's supposed to.  It reacts great when there are some dry boards to work with, otherwise it just skates and never starts revving.  It's drilled stronger than my Ambush, but it was supposed to be my oil ball.  Well, it fits nicely between my Ambush and CZ-RP, which is a bad place for a solid ball to be, because that gives me some crazy overlap.  I'm actually trying to sell two of them, mine and a friend's.  Both have less than 15 games on them.

Don't get me wrong, it covers a lot of boards on the backends, it just doesn't pick up and move soon enough to do anything.  My Scorchin hasn't done much but hit flat since I got it.  It probably doesn't even have 10 games on it, and the change in surface hasn't changed the hook potential at all.  It just never has really hooked much period.

to crispy brownies...if you are using any ball cleaner that is not for dull balls, it will soak into the ball giving it that dark colour...

on another note, there has been times where i have been unhappy with the ball.  maybe i sholuld have gotten a strike zone or something of the morich line to try to keep it in the brunswick family.

I've dulled my Strike Zone to 400 for real heavy oil and it's a beast. I also shined it up more and it can handle anything. It would be a good investment.
