Hey everyone,

I'm almost done pulling the trigger on a trade for a used Impulse Zone. I don't really "need" it, so I'm looking to experiment with drilling and cover prep to try to create a unique look in my bag.

Here are my specs:
High speed (17-19 mph), average to above average revs, depending upon the line I'm trying to play, high track, comfortable playing straight up the wood or swinging the ball from in deep

Current arsenal:
Heavy Oil: MoRich Seek & Destroy (pin right and slightly up from ring, cg in line, mb at around 45 degrees, box finish)

Med-Heavy: MoRich Total Shock & Awe (Pin right of ring, cg and mb stacked below, shined up a bit with finishing compound)

Medium-Pearl: Brunswick Vapor Zone (Drilled pin right of ring, cg stacked below, mb just right of thumb hole, box finish)

Medium-Control: Colubia Action (Drilled pin even with ring, cg toward midline, slight polish)

Medium-Skid-Snap: Ebonite The One (Drilled Pin below ring, cg kicked a pinch right, box finish)

Medium-Light: Track Slash X-out-8" pin (Drilled pin above bridge, cg below and just right of thumb hole, highly polished)

Light: Tropical Storm (Drilled pin right of ring, cg beneath ring off midline, box finish)


Burnt/spares: Blue pearl Target Zone (Drilled straight over the label, box finish)


These balls cover all of the major conditions that I will face in leagues and most tourneys. What I'm hoping for is to set the Impulse up with a layout that gives me a look that I don't already have. I was thinking of going with a rico drilling or something like that. What suggestions do you all have? What should I try? I'm open to just about anything, provided you think it can offer me a different look. Let me know what you think, and don't be afraid to get creative. I'd recommend using a pin to PAP distance around 2".  This will give you a much different look than anything in your bag.  Drill the pin 2" from axis, MB directly under the thumb (anywhere from 6"- 6 3/4" depending on your axis), and place the pin 1 3/4" above the midline.  Chances are you will need a weightole, so i would say target weight it, and take the surface to 2000 no polish.  The ball will be great on shorter patterns, as it will not overreact to friction.  I have an Onslaught drilled like this, and absolutely love it on flat patterns that still have head oil.
