Zone Classic problem?
« on: May 30, 2006, 11:42:59 AM »
I just bought a ZC from a friend, and it does not hook at all if the ball touches any hint of oil. It does not have a red pin. And it seems too dark to be one of the violet ones. Has there been a bad batch recently? Just wanting to know what's up with it.

i wonder what surface prep has been done to the ball as opposed to how it was drilled. this is basically a medium condition, highly polished, pearlized reactive ball. it's possible there is more oil on the lanes that this ball can handle.

There is always the possibility of a bad ball. My advice is have your pro shop guy jot down the serial # and call the area rep!

The drill pattern isn't that weak. I'm thinking a 4 1/2in. pin to pap (pin up) and maybe a 5 1/2 to 6 inch mb to pap. Void hole about an inch inside of my PAP. Ball has maybe 3 games on at the most. Surface feels "normal". I was also bowling with it on a fresh shot, (THS, not too heavy) and I could play a sixth arrow shot into the pocket or play up five with as much revs as I can put on the ball at my normal speed. Maybe it just is a bad ball. I'm actually thinking about keeping it because of the old wood lane house I bowl on doesn't believe in oil or just like to see the "old" days present in today. I'll give it another try.

before you spend the time and money plugging and redrilling the ball try adjusting the surface of the coverstock. if the ball, "doesn't hook at all", as you say, try scuffing off the polish and try using the ball smooth sanded with no polish. a good place to start is wetsanding the ball 2,000 grit and see what happens.
