Should I buy some re-makes?
« on: September 03, 2007, 10:24:54 PM »
Seeing that Brunswick is remaking a bunch of their most successful balls from their past, should I invest in them. I had a chance to throw my friend's Purple Rhino Pro, and the reaction was great. Was thinking about getting that ball and the Black Danger Zone. Are these two a good combo? Just looking for more predictable ball rolls. Hoping to get the best group of balls for my tournament arsenal.

If a ball fits, why not buy it again? I'd love to get hands on a NIB Eliminator or Trauma.

The only thing to mind is this... since the introduction of these balls the oil has changed. More viscous types are common now, and the balls, if they are a 100% remake, should appear to be weaker than during their time. I am not sure if this has been compensated during production now. As a hint, you will find many "yesterday" balls' covers on balls for lighter conditions today.

Thanks dizzy. I think I will buy some of these re-makes. But I haven't had those balls before, they are almost as old as me lol. The Purple Rhino Pro gave a roll to the pocket, where everything else was snappy.

have the company your ordering from re-weigh the ball prior to shipment!

This is a known issue with EVERY ball company, a few get through.
Big deal, you should always weigh and measure before drilling.

There was extra top weight, what were you trying to do?
"kick it out 45 degrees"?

Hey Mega, don't be a Jerk with me about this, I have a 3.5 PAP w/medium ball speed and excessive Top weight makes a Reactive skate just as long as a Plastic for me so when I ask for a 2-3 Top, I better Damn Well get what I ordered! 3.5 top, yes I can drill the finger's down a ways, but 4.5 with a 14.3 ball would give me a heavy 13 pounder and the ball won't touch the lane till 30 feet unless I use a crap-load of reverse in the Thumb!

You're way off base here.
PAP horizontal measurement does not account for anything with static weight.

Its legal if the gross top weight is under 3 ounces, 4.5 top minus drilling should be about 2 to 2.5 ounces gross, end of story.

You're fine, no need for name calling.

I really hope you're not serious.

This isnt religion, its physics, and properties of friction opposed to non-dynamic mass.

Do you believe in the tooth fairy?
If you do, it doesnt mean it exists.

Sometimes there is a right and wrong.

Yes, in the United States there are those basic freedoms.

alright to clear some things up i have heard from mo himself that static weights make up less than 3% of a balls reaction.  i know of regional pros who could basically care less about static weights because it is so minimal that it goes unnoticed.

God I hate to even jump in this

Static wieghts are static, meaning they dont move around in the ball.  But once the ball is put into motion (dynamic) the static wieght can play an influeance on the motion.  1 oz is not alot in a 15# ball, but the location of that 1 oz, even a static 1 oz, can have an effect.  the further from the center of the ball the more dramatic.  remember the ball in motion is dynamic and that extra weight is also now rotating around the mass, depending on core shape and any bias it may have you can and will see effects of statics, that is physics

Well, in my experience, the static weights in the remakes are just as good as the static weights in the originals.

my opinion?  yes, as the ball slows the core and its imbalance, no matter what is the reasoning behind it (IE weight hole or static weights) the effects of said imbalance becomes more noticeable

Hey Dynojoe, 1 word of caution, before you Buy 1 of these remakes, remember, they are being made in Mexico!
What the heck does that have to do with anything? I suppose that if someone speaks Spanish they are ignorant and have no clue how a bowling ball is used ? Geez, I called bowlingball.com last year and an American didn't know how to spell Hammer. Stay away from Brunswick if you want. Your choice.
