brunswick red alert
« on: August 01, 2008, 04:27:38 PM »
I recently found a red alert in really good shape. I had the thumb slugged and redrilled. I wet sanded the ball with some 400 grit sandpaper my friend had and polished it on a spinner with alittle beans and VOILA!!! this ball really rolls good. It reminds me of my old sapphire zone. I was just curious if anyone has or has owned this ball and can it be compared to any of the new balls that are out now. I just malled my buddies lst night in pot games 4 out 5 games. want to try something brunswick thats current.

brunswick's danger zone red alert was a lower rg version of the popular danger zone. both had the  powrkoil 18 reactive coverstock and familiar lightbulbish shaped core. i had several of them. they all rolled and hit great. you can use them dull for oily lanes and polished for medium conditions.

The best bowling ball ever made!

I have about 12 of them.  I have pretty much thrown the Red Alert exclusively since 1999.  I have been throwing the same one for about 4 years.  I was throwing one before that for about 3 years.  It had about 11 plugs on it (I kept plugging spots that were cracking).  I shot 812 with it.  Last year with my newer one in league one night I shot 236-290-300 (826).  I still can't believe I threw 23 strikes in a row in league.

The others I got are more now in case the current one I have gets stolen or it explodes for whatever reason or whatever..

Brunswick bowling balls never lose their power...ever!  Or at least for not 10 years and counting.  I have never had any Zone (or Brunswick) die on me.  All of the newer balls are just propaganda.  I'm a straight player with very few revs (about 8 maybe), and I should notice more than anyone if these balls die out.  They do not!  These newer balls are good, but not any better than bowling balls made in the mid-1990s and on.  Why would they still have PowerKoil18 still, and keep remaking old cores?

I wish the Big B would re-release the Red Alert or at least that exact same core in another ball.

There have been some good balls in the past decade though...the Inferno is an awesome line!  I also will be getting a Smash Zone tomorrow.  That one I have been wanting to try out.  I've been searching for a ball that would equal the Red Alert's performance.  I have never found it.  I have hit every condition successfully with that ball...  From all oils to try.  It is amazing.

I can't think of any ball that would come close to the reaction of the Red Alert.  The Sapphire Zone, Danger zone (any with that similar core).  The Total Inferno is pretty good, but the Red Alert has a unique reaction to it.  Hard to compare it to a ball out today though.  I have really liked what I have seen of the Smash so far, maybe it will be close when I throw it...

But no ball compares to the Red Alert, but the Red Alert!

hey chuck,

i agree with you.  the red alert is one of the best by brunswick.  i had one but gave it to a friend of mine when i went from 14 to 15 lb, now i wish i kept it.  my uncle has his still and it still performs.  it took me almost 8 years to find a 15 lb red alert and i finally found one used.  and as luck would have it i found another one soon afterwards, so i snapped that one up also.  i just need to get it plugged and redrilled, and they're both in great shape.  it would be nice to see brunswick serve up this nice piece of equipment again as a re-issue.  same cover, same core, same look.  the only other ball that would have the same type of look and action would be the brunswick HPD.  im pretty sure it has the same core as the red alert, but only with a pro-active coverstock.

take a looksee.
