Sidewinder?
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:00:25 PM »
Anyone still use one? My dad has one that he doesn't use and I'm thinking of plugging the thumb for me. Here's what I have:

Lethal Revolver/Wild Card/Alpha-Max (I am trying to choose between one of those)
Loaded Revolver - coming soon
Damage
Slingshot
Avalanche Urethane

I know the Sidewinder is part particle, so would that have any place in that arsenal? Maybe something similar in strength to the Damage, but a different hook shape?

The Sidewinder is a hybrid (solid/pearl) with an very low particle load. It would fit between any of the solids that you are deciding on and your Loaded Revolver.  The Sidewinder was very useful and took surface adjustments well. Under-rated ball, in my opinion.

Used mine tonight for practice. Broken down THS with little oil left in the normal track area. Moved 6 boards left with my feet (21) and threw across the 12 board out to the 8 and it was ripping the rack. Shot 278, with a stone 9 pin in the 2nd frame and a ringing 10 pin in the 12th. On a normal fresh THS I stand 15 and shoot 10. This is the only ball that allows me to move deeper than my normal comfort zone. Surface is 320 Maroon scotchbrite then 600 Green scotchbrite, no polish. I only use scotchbrite pads since it is a particle ball. Love the continuation of this ball through the pins.

I have one and really like the reaction.. It is different than any ball that I have and I usually pull it out when my other stuff just doesn't seem to be working....  I wouldn't call it a heavy oil ball as it tends to labor in the oil when other balls don't seem to have a problem.. I think the BTM ratings have it a little high on its ability to handle oil.

That being said , the ball seems to traction all the way down the lane. It seems to do this without every burning up though...

I will also agree that it takes surface adjustments very well to fine tune the reaction.. I usually switch between 1000 and 2000 abralon with mine depending on the condition.

Also.. double check if your sidewinder is indeed the particle version.  I heard there was a batch of balls that went out without the particle load added to them..
