siege and rattler
« on: August 05, 2009, 02:51:51 PM »
i'll be at my proshop friday to have my new siege and rattler drilled up for the upcoming season. i'm also getting a new t-zone as my old one has several deep gouges. my plan for the siege is to be used for combating the massive over/under on a top hat condition at a wood house with the laneshield overlay. this ball will be finished with 4,000 abralon and rico drilled. it will also be a heavy oil ball and scuffed rougher for oily lanes at tournaments. my rattler replaces last years version. it will be a medium condition ball for another house with excellent wood lanes. this ball will have factory finish( sanded 400 grit and highly plished ) and be drilled stacked leverage. this matchup was perfect on this condition last year. i'll post my findings on these balls as i get used to them.

i got all three of these drilled up today and besides looking great the quality control in regards to the colors, logos, pins, etc., all looked first rate. i was in kansas city for most of the day today as my wife was with her father at the doctors office( he's receiving radiation for several tumors on a lung ). since i had about 3 hours to kill i went through the ENTIRE inventory of brunswick bowling balls at the pro shop i use, bill smith's ams bowling supplies in independence. every single brunswick bowling ball's quality control was first rate. all color schemes looked even and uniform. pins, cgs, and psas were all located and colored correctly. logos were all correct and uniform. each particular surface that was applied to a ball( polished, dull, etc. ) was even and uniform.

here's one brunswick customer that wants to pass along a job well done to everyone who works for brunswick.

i used my new siege and rattler today at amf northland in kansas city. this is a 35 year old house that has amf hpl synthetic lanes and wood approaches. it was a hot humid day today( 95 degrees + ) and the wood approaches were tacky but thanks to my brand new 3G tour ultra's this problem was solved. i tried the rattler first and quickly remembered that this is a great skid/snap pearl from brunswick. the coverstock was left in factory condition( wetsanded 400 grit and polished ) and it is drilled basically 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 with a deep hole down near the thumb. the left lane was noticeably tighter so a down and in shot straight down 9 with appx. 20 degrees of axis rotation and end over end roll produced ease thru the heads and a strong backend move. the right lane was much more forgiving so swinging the ball was in order with 45 degrees of axis rotation playing appx. 12 to 7-8 and again a strong skid/snap backend. carry was the only issue here.

i used the siege for the next two games and it's finished with brunswicks new 4,000 microfinishing pad. it's drilled with a rico pattern. i was able to swing the ball on the tighter lane now and obviously had to move a little farther left on both lanes. this surface was perfect for freshly oiled synthetics and the rico drilling pattern proved its worth with an earlier read and a strong controlled backend. again carry was the only issue

both of these balls will receive more testing but appear to be just what i was looking for. thanks to bill smith at ams bowling supplies in independence, missouri, for the technical help.
