Suggest a all round drilling on a 2.5
« on: March 25, 2010, 10:31:11 PM »
Hi all,

I have just got back into bowling after a long break (13yrs) and have just started to build up an arsenal. I have just purchased a csystem 2.5 and am looking for some help.

I am really looking for a all rounder type ball from this as i think it is one of the best rolling balls i have seen. I dont really have much information about my stats besides I'm a righty, about 20mph and in old fashioned type of revs about 16 down the lane(dont know what that is in new money!). I have some axis tilt but not much and i do get round the ball rather than up the back.

By the way im in the U.K. and in my region they dont put much lane conditioner on the lane. Most nights of my main league i have to use a storm natural, I know the 2.5 may not be the smart choice but it looks to be a beast of a ball and i cant wait to drill it and use it.

So I am looking for some info on your favorite drillings and surfaces on the 2.5 please, or any recomendations.

I would be most grateful for any king of help. If you need any more info please just ask.

Thanks for the reply Freakin,

Yeah smooth control is the desired motion off the spot but i want length also. What about Mass bias position? on the val, past the val?

Like playing just inside third and swinging it but i have tried some storm products eg Fast and Hyroad and they make big snappy moves that can be very twitchy and very speed sensitive, i'm hopeing not to find a similar reaction with the 2.5

Can't wait to get it drilled and try it!

I could be wrong, but the PSA mark IS the mass bias.

If the lanes are dry where you bowl, then you should try maybe 4.5 to 5" pin from PAP and above the fingers in my opinion. The MB is always good in the 45-55 degree range.

I like my 2.5 with some polish, so don''t be afraid to try that, depending on lane surface, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Mass bias / Preferred spin axis thought they were one in the same? Would a asymmetric ball have a PSA and a symmetric ball have a Mass Bias?

Not too sure about that like, just guessing!

Anyway, looks like 45 degree drill angle is getting the vote so just pin distance and val angle is left. Mo P's site recommends the angles total approx 100 degrees so might shoot for 55 val angle. And maybe go for 5 inch pin.

Just really want to get this one right. Cant wait. whenever i have seen the 2.5 bowled it always looks so sweet, no matter who is bowling it!

Once again thanks for the help

I would put the pin next to your ring finger with the marking close as possible to your palm. This wlll give you length and a gradual move off the dry. It may look different as its according to your pap, but ask your driller about going with a control drilling. I have this drilling on my riot, and it doesnt snap or jump, just a nice continuous move to the pocket even at 2000 abralon finish. Try it, it should give you the look you are looking for. A pin under drilling would be my next choice, but im thinking it would be too much, definately not a pin above fingers drilling unless you want it to just snap off the dry. If you would like a picture of the layout I am speaking of, pm me and I would be happy to help you out as much as I can.. thanks!

Hi Tizzle,

Thanks for the advice. your suggestion would put the PSA/MB in the track area or thumb, This promotes what? will it smooth the reaction in a similar way to placing it on the VAL?

Many thanks
