Smash Zone
« on: March 01, 2009, 08:05:33 AM »
Looked pretty good on the broadcast today. As a fan of low RG pearls, I think I will have to pick one up.  Doesn't seem to be much chatter with regards to this ball.

The Smash Zone is one AMAZING piece of equipment. It reminds me a lot of my ol' Hammer Pyscho, but with more punch/power to it and cleaner through the fronts. Pick one up, you won't be disappointed.

I throw mine regularly. I did need to knock some of the shine off it to make it read the lane a bit earlier, but this one's definitely a keeper.

Highly underated piece of equipment. Great core/cover combo. Who knows why it didn't catch on better. Do you guys think it was not flashy enough? We struggle all the time debating whether or not mid to high end bowlers care what a ball looks like. In the recent past is seemed as if boring, one color, plain looking balls were favored by the higher level bowlers, mainly because the ball seemed easier to trace as it went down the lane. Now, it seems as if even the higher end bowlers like to see the flashyness of a ball.

Opinions?

Rob, honestly, I love the Smash Zone's color. I don't see why it was so underated really. It's simple, plain, but still has a nice look of black to it. Maybe there were previous releases that people liked so much that they forgot never paid attention to the Smash Zone? Or a ball that came out in the Brunswick line after the Smash Zone that just caught people's eye more? Who knows, it's just a great ball anyways.

Wow,

That ball is awesome. Early rolling, but still enough punch on the backend, excellent ball. I don't think it was attractive enough (appearance) for the mainstream. Not bright orange, or Dark Blue, just black with lettering.

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...some magic, some hot sauce, and a saw.. how can I loose?

I think that those people who really liked the Black Ice Danger Zone would love the Smash Zone.  The roll/reaction is eerily similar but the difference is that the Smash Zone will handle oil better.

I would throw a hot pink ball if it worked.  I wanted this ball because I liked the look of the ball, but more so the reaction I saw from it.  I have yet to drill it because I surfed eBay for one and while I got it for $40, it has like a 5" pin so I don't know what to do with it.  But it sure looks good sitting in my closet!

BrunsBob,
I think the Smash looks great but I'm alittle more old school than some. To me the Copperhead is butt ugly(but very effective!) and I have a hard time looking at it. White has no place on a bowling ball.

Funny enough, I’ve been wondering why the recent Big B releases are all blue(ish) colour. (Rattler, Maxx and Wild Ride)

I know shelf appeal plays a part in colour selection, but it’d be nice to have something other than blue!

Personally, I don't care what a ball looks like.  I wouldn't care of everything in my bag was basic black.  There's something about a Black ball hitting the white pins that makes me smile.    Jokes aside, I have the Smash Zone and I love it.  Once I got mo' serious about my game, I stopped taking the look of the ball into consideration.

When my Wild Ride reads too early, the Smash is what I go to..

As owner of the ill-fated AMF XS, I would tend to agree.

I agree. I think most if not all here at ballreviews feel the same way.

The 'general public' may feel otherwise though.

Oh I'm sure that the schnazzy colors draws peoples attention.  Even more so with Storm equipment and their fragrant bowling balls.  I almost took a bite out of my friends D2.  LOL.

My driller just got some seconds in. The smash zone I picked has a crack in the yellow pin. Otherwise it weighs out just like the specs on the box. I told him to drill the pin out and match the color as close as possible. Hopefully it rolls as good as it looks.
