Should I drill it?
« on: February 27, 2005, 02:52:23 PM »
I've been searching for a Rhino Pro Teal for a few months and finally found an original NIB at www.bowlingballmall.com.  It has sentimental value because I rolled my 1st 300 game with a Rhino.

But, with the advances made in lane material, oil and ball technology, how will this ball match up being an older ball?  Or does it even matter that it is old?  Could I just drill it according to the chart and expect it to react as such?

The ball is still a VERY effective weapon on today's conditions. With the lightbulb style core it is not as jumpy nor as overpowering as some of the newer releases.

I had one drilled axis weight and I loved it. Too bad it cracked :-(

Thanks Doug.

I was hoping some pro shop guys would chime in with responses.

I PM'd Nick regarding drilling a few days ago and mentioned I wanted this ball to have a strong arc.  He stated the ball was more of a skid/snap than an arc so I am a little torn as to how it should be drilled.

I drilled mine over the label. When I first punched it out last year I threw a few games in its box condition, and I really liked it. Then I polished it. It's pretty weak on today's oils in with a shiny cover. I will probably scuff it up and play with it again once I start bowling better. Right now everything looks bad to me, so it wouldn't be fair to rate any ball.
