Pattern E
« on: August 01, 2006, 09:54:13 AM »
Alright, we are running a tournament and thats the oil pattern.  I need advice on a new ball to play that pattern preferably from 13-14 out to the gutter, but straighter around the 9-10 board would work too.  We are bowling on wood lanes if that also helps, any suggestions?

To update, i have bowled on the center on the pattern once before with Ritchie Allen. I had the most success with my Smokin, but that was after the lanes began to transition.  My Stike Zone & Absolute hooked way to much, my Ice not enough.  I was in the in between to start off and i don't have a particle pearl in my lineup...

when I was in Oregon last month I bowled on pattern E and my 1:30 label drilled AI worked great but my buddy who had an ambush with pin below ring finger cg kicked at like 45 degree worked great too. I know on that pattern down and in was what ever one was shooting till it openned up

Figure out which ball gets you to and through the breakpoint with the best reaction.  As always, plan ahead and get your practice in as the shot breaks down and see what ball you'll need after four of five games and things will be cool.

Elite's Cheetah, it's " built for the pattern"

LMAO ok no seriously probably an ambush and then something a little more backend when it opens up. maybe like a Pyro.

and what does T.C.T. (ref elite's cover term) mean??? particle or not?

Alot of different balls play well on pattern E.  The key to finding a great matchup is usually how well you're releasing the ball and feeding it to the right spot down lane.  This is not the pattern to be grabby with your release.  That's when things get funky, stuff starts checking up and burning etc.  Let the armswing free up and stay confident, you'll find out you can get a similar look with almost polar opposites.

Last time I played pattern E was at a 5 game sweeper on Guardian which really exaggerates the shortness of pattern E.  I had a great look with a polished V2, a polished TPC Warrior with a high pin forward roll drill, a pin under thumb powergroove, and a Rico drilled polished Nemesis.  All of them(very different balls & layouts) gave me the look I was looking for on the pattern, especially on the fresh but I chose to stay with the Nemesis since that seemed to finish the hardest.  I ended up in 3rd, the leader was near +250 and he used 2 different X Factor Deuces.  I'd say it's more execution than equipment selection, just don't use anything TOO flippy.

(sarcasm on)

Hey, DP3.  If you liked your Nemesis on that shot, next time give Brunswick's new Wizard a try.

But isn't that the same ball as the Nemesis just with a different color?

And what is a rico drill?  Anyone have pics?
Is the Black/Red PBA ball the same ball as the Inferno?
And what is the difference between the Red Pin Classic Zone and the Green Pin?

And is it true Brunswick makes Lane 1?  Why buy a Buzzwsaw ball when you can get a Zone ball for $70 cheaper?

These are the questions that need answering!!!

Pattern E on wood should fly!!!! I used my yellow sun storm swinging more than straight down and in and won the sweeper.  I would use something really mild reactive like older reactives or something along the lines of a scout hi-flare or super trooper (since you're a columbia guy)  If it was on synthetics I would say stronger, but not most wood.
