Is it possible to...
« on: October 09, 2005, 01:57:17 PM »
drill up a red pin ZC to act like plastic on steroids?  Reason being, after bowling some tournaments where I bowled 12 games or so, I've found I do great playing straight up with plastic.  And it's easier than hooking the whole lane.  But unfortunately I can't use the plastic for fresh shots as it won't recover.  And by fresh, I mean oiled enough that it takes about 3 games for the lanes to break down enough that the plastic will make a real move.  I have a red pin sitting around that I should be getting drilled this week, so I got to thinking.  How can I lay out the RPZC to give me that smooth arc I see with the plastic?  I figure I can get an effective 2 ball arsenal for league and some of the tournaments I bowl, since I can change releases, speed and revs easily and most of the time, the up-the-outside shot is there.  Any ideas?  BTW the Red pin I have is about a 2.5" pin-cg distance, with the CG about .5" right of the pin to PSA line.

This drilling might or might not be possible depending on the top weight, pin 1.5 inches from axis, mb 6.25 inches from axis. Might need a huge balance hole to get that thing legal. This is about as close as you are going to get to plastic with this ball (which is not weak by any means, imo).

Maybe, sand the cover to 2000 or even 4000, put in the luster king, drill it not to flare....

Mine is 5" p2p, mb just right of my thumb, don't know the exact measurement.  I would guess 5+ inches.  It *can* angular it I get on the side of it.  I would consider a 5" p2p, mb on val.  It would be early and rolly.  Cover prep to the condition.

Good call on the luster king, that thing will definately kill the backend reaction and give you more of a "plastic like" look.
