Smoking Inferno Question.
« on: January 25, 2006, 06:58:50 PM »
I want to know if the Smoking Inferno is considered an oil ball, a medium, or a medium dry lane ball....

I use my Original Inferno on most fresh shots, but what I am wondering is this... If I drill a Smoking Inferno with a decent length type pattern, will this be a good go to ball when my OI is reacting to soon and I am forced to play 20 to 7 with my OI?

Also do the Smoking and Original Inferno have almost the same ball reaction.... I know the SI has more snap, but does the Smoking inferno get enough length for dry back ends?

my smokin is far better when they are dry.  even medium oil is almost too much for mine.  the oi covers alot more boards on wetter conditions.  smokin is best when they are drier, imo.

I can't use my Smokin in anything heavier than Medium-light, though I have a low rev rate.  I've heard that people with higher rev rates have more success on medium patterns, though that's all conjecture.

I think Brunswick raised high hopes by their original data and ball description, and the SI does not live up to be a polished recative pearl ball that handles oily conditions. In fact, they changed the performance ratings and the SI's position on the comparison chart to a less oily position and reduced the hook potential.

Only good on fresh shots of medium length or as a 2nd ball for longer/stronger patterns. Too much oil will let it skid and react erratically. On the others side, not a true dry lane ball. But it does not burn up as easily as an AI, for example.

Performance overall is sharper than an OI: longer, and sharper breakpoint.

the SI in my opinion is definitely for medium oiled lanes.  i have an agressive SI with a 2 inch pin under ring finger with the cg kicked out slightly to the right.  when i use this on lanes that has heavy oil, it reacts like a spare ball. spinning as it goes straight.

So basically on medium drier patterns, the SI should allow me to pick up where my OI leaves off, when it starts reading to soon on the back ends?

now mind you that it all depends on the condition of your SI.  My SI is out box conditon.

Probably?

If you don't have the ball, please don't give us your 2 cents.

Thank you, drive thru.

mine seems to be better in the Medium to medium oil. I have mine drilled for medium oil also. . .

Its hard to play with an inferno and not get burned. Last time I threw my inferno, the opposing bowler definitely got burned.

I also have an OI, drilled for medium oil. Pin is about 3/4 of an inch higher than my SI. I use my smoking when the lanes have gotten a little action and use my OI on the fresh oil.

I know for A FACT that the ball is less agressive than my ABSOLUTE INFERNO AND THAT IT IS LESS AGRESSIVE THAN MY ORIGINAL INFERNO.. AND I ALSO KNOW IT BLOWS ON HEAVY OIL.. YES I DONT OWN THE BALL BUT I PLAN ON GETTING ONE LATER... THE BALL IS BASICALLY THE EXACT SAME AS AN INTENSE INFERO IN THE WAY THAT IT IS LONG AND BREAKS HARD LATE! ITS a good ball for the outside lines.. on medium oil and dryer im sure.. I saw my proshop guy throw the ball on heavy oil.. he had to throw it at about 3 miles perhour to make it hook and he is a really good bowler.. So im just saying the ball is medium-dryer oil lane conditions..

probably is the answer to your question.... im not sure how it reacts in carrydown and crap.. it would probably be your solution for the dryer lanes though..
