oi drilling
« on: January 26, 2006, 10:02:28 PM »
how should i drill my oi? im a stroker who loves to play down and in, im looking at the oi as a medium ball for me. i want decent length with a hard arc. i play on wood lanes with clean backends. if i add polish would it be snappier or what grit should i take the cover to? or should i leave it oob finish? would a 5x4 with mb on the strong position be a good suggestion? your input  would be appreciated. thanks!

The OI can move a lot, it is s strong ball for tghe conditions you mention and the line you want to play with it. Basically, I'd go with your own guess:  a high pin position above the fingers, bridge are or so. Put the CG either stacked (could become flippy, though) or a bit further away from your thumb hole to make the ball movement more even/arcy. If you want a down-and-in shot, putting the pin even above your middle finger and closer to the track might be necessary.

If you want a more rolly type of recation and less back end movement, consider a drilling with the pin below the fingers. The reaction might become more predictable and the ball react earlier.

Keep the surface in OOB condition, which is 400 grit sanded with Brusnwick high gloss polish. If it moves too much, you can try a higher grit sanding base before polish application, but I think it will not help much.

A long pin to pap, like 5" or greater will make this ball backend alot.  I am not sure if you want something that snappy.  I would say, 4 1/2 pin to pap with the pin above or below the fingers.

OR

A 2 1/2" pin to pap, but you'll need oil up front to keep it from rolling early.  If you have that, you can really control those clean backends with this layout.  I believe it is 3E on the brunswick layout chart.

i believe the layout you are looking for is 2L... it is the best for the outside and in shot.. but you can also move inside with it :-P... im a stroker/tweener and it has worked out well.. if it turns out to be too agressive on the outside just increase your speed a bit... if you message me your email adress.. i suppose i could send you a pic of my inferno with the layout..
