So, we drilled a Red Zone and...
« on: June 28, 2006, 02:44:54 AM »
Well we got around to testing our red zone and we put it side by side with a vapour and a Morich Awesome flip.

The Red Zone featured a 4 1/2 inch pin to pap drilling above the fingers. the MB was on the VAL. there was a balance hole next to the fingers pitched 1 inch away.

This ball was extrememly clean through the front. Decent midlane and i was expecting smooth continuous roll in the backends from this layout. The ball went sideways. like we are talking from deep inside to 7 or and the ball could leave 4-9s if the bowler let up a bit on the speed. compared to the vapour zone which was pin 4 3/4 above the fingers with the MB 1 inch away from the thumb the vapour was more midlane but calmer backend.

the awesome flip was a control layout pin lower MB in the strong position. the awesome flip in comparison was acring through out the lane and had the lease amount of backend but most midlane. the awesome flip got through all the carrydown.

I can belive this dude my classic zone backends harder than any ball I every threw! I very rarely even carry it now because I don't see enough oil for it or the ball is just to strong in the backend like u said if u let up at all it dives through the headpin. I just don't think I was ment to use asymmetrical cores lol. Think I will stick to symmetrical ones they roll much better for me and are smoother at the break point.

These 3 balls had different layouts.
After this comparaison, could you imagine
what the reactions would be if compared with the
same layout, let's say a strong drilling?

I am sorry, but these apples and oranges comparisons just blow my mind ...

I really don't see the problem to compare different balls, especially
when the coverstocks are from the same family (activator) and when
two of them share the same core. Far from being oranges and apples.
I can't find any interest comparing identical balls.

Neither do I.
I wonder if charlest is referring to not only different cores, different coverstocks, but also different drillings. That makes too many influences in order to draw meanignful conclusions about what is responsible for the different ball reactions. It confuses me too.

ok well i figured since i have access to some balls earlier than most some would appreicate some info on what we were seeing. We don't always have the option to drill every ball the same. it's also not practical for our purposes.

I guess if i should just not even bother. I'll take your advice charlest and stick to lemons. thanks.

The coverstock being the same in each is really more important than the drillings. I understand what The Dude was trying to do by this... thanks
