Time to re-surface my AI
« on: January 09, 2006, 01:10:33 AM »
In the area where I stay, we are unable to get hold of any rough buff so I was wondering what difference will I get if the AI is to be re-surface to 400 grit and finished with high gloss finish as compare to the box condition.
Thanks in advance...

I might be wrong, but I thought the Absolute is 320 grit, then Ruff N Buff? I think that's what it is.

10-4 on the 220/Rough Buff.

Thanks guys but just wondering anyone brought their AI to 400 grit and polished ? Hope you can share some experience with us. Heard from friends that with this finish, it's reaction would like the Intense but with more hook, is that true ?

400 grit plus polish will make it skid longer and handle less oil than its stock box condition (220 grit plus ROugh Buff). It willnot be like the Intense which had/has a much higher RG.

If you can't get Rough Buff, the the suggestion made above is not a bad one: Ebonite's Matte finish, which is 1200 grit. But I'd sand it or use Scotch Brite pads to take to 800 or a 1000 grit, then apply a good dose of the Matte Finish.

Several online internet places have Brunswick's Rough Buff. If you buy some other accessories, it will help offset the extra cost of shipping.

I prepped my AI with 400 and high gloss.  It was a much better ball, more change of direction at the breakpoint and carry was better.  The only problem I saw was, it hated carrydown and would squirt quite a bit.

The AI, with 400 and HG, is very close to the OI, OOB.  However, I still feel the OI was a better ball.

Wonder if it was because the AI's cover is a "nod" stronger than the original's?? (A "nod" is a tiny bit.)
Wonder if that's why I liked the Intense so much: stronger cover in a milder core? (I tend to drift towards those types of balls.)

I think thats where I made my mistake,I went 400 grit,R.B.and then high gloss polish.that made it so touchy on the backend it gave me allot of over/under and greif.I want to get it back like thee day I bought it.
